Job Interview :: Dress Code Advice

Never wear just a waistcoat for an interview, it's a ridiculous look. Only time I'd wear a waistcoat without the jacket if it's to hot for the jacket as well.
Why don't you like jackets? I love them. Perhaps you've never got the right fit?

Maybe, i just think they look ridiculous :p

Even when they are the right fit they just look out of place.

I can't fathom how you think that, very odd. Jackets, out of place, on your torso... You are wearing them over your shirt right, and not trying to put them on your legs? :p

Granted I only sit in on interviews to answer questions about day to day running, etc. tho I usually get asked what my opinion was of the candidate. For a general retail type position tbh I find a 16-18 year old or so fresh out of school, college or uni wearing a suit can quite often serve to emphasise their inexperience or if they had good grades the fact that they probably won't be hanging around very long - both of which can count against them when taking other candidates into account. My personal opinion is a nice pair of shoes, smart trousers, shirt and tie serves better than a full on suit there, unless its at the very least a team leader position, definitely anything higher than that I'd expect a suit but then they'd need some experience to.

WEAR A SUIT.

The only acceptable reply.

Oh this might be note worthy to your decisions.

Does it change anything?

Not as far as your dress is concerned.

I always think you should dress similarly as you would doing the actual job, but what do I know.:p

Would love to see someone interviewing for a job as a scuba instructor.

Always a suit unless told explicitly otherwise. right or wrong all it does is make it look like you couldn't be bothered. Also right or wrong people WILL judge you based on things like tattoos and piercings.

Will be a suit then, I don't have any smart casuals and a suit will be a much better investment than some expensive designer crud.

Even just suit trousers and a shirt tucked in will be fine, I don't think you'd need to have a tie. I guess it's one of these things, it can't hurt. But I'd be more nervous about a university interview than a job interview (within reason) and would want to be as comfortable as possible. If that meant sans tie and sans suit then that's what I'd go for.

I didn't have an interview for my university though, so what do I know!

University interviews = smart trousers, shirt, tie and smart shoes

Job interviews = Suit and polished shoes.

That is how I have always approached it.

ANOTHER ONE OF THESE THREADS?

You have a job interview, you wear a suit.

I have nothing more to add really. I despair.
