I noticed Mac is on tour with UTD. Does SAF still see a future with him? He did nothing in Italy... infact, his team got relagated. :/

So he's either competing with your 'top signing' the season prior or he's competing with Fletcher, Anderson, Carrick etc for the more withdrawn role which he isn't better at than your current players.

Even IF / When Sneijder signs - Utd still need a dm / cm type player , even if you consider Fletcher and or Carrick to be good enough (latter isnt really a dm at all, more like a deep -laying playmaker) for the higher echelons of Europe neither is a DM and now Hargreaves has left the squad, there is a requirement to be filled.

Of course this (and an understudy to Sneijder) could be filled by the likes of Pogba / Morrison / Cleverely , UTD certainly have enough games in every season to give them all a good number of senior starts to see how they can progress in meaningful games (rather than U18's etc and on loan).

Thought Fergie was chasing M'Ville (or something like that), who seems to have a good rep in france - but that seems to have gone cold recently.

It could have course be argued that buying another player on top of Sneijder - if he arrives - could stunt the younger players chances/ growth ......

There has also been sugestions that if Sneijder is signed, during the games he will undoubtedly be rested , that Young could be given that position behind the 2nd striker (like he has played for England recently) to see how well he can do there.....which therefore opens up a wing slot

Anyone believe SAF / Gill even considering using Nani in part exchange for Sneijder? (Although from Utd's side its not really the transfer fee thats an issue in the first place)


edit - Not really sure what happened to Macheda , I feel for him as he seemed like he had a lot of promise but thats kind of died out in the last season or so - but Im not sure if anyone has shown any interest in him either loan or purchase (and considering his performances in Italy its not surprising really)....but then look at Bebe at least Utd could get £2m back on him lol)

Ferdinand has replied to that account and said it's his, even though it isn't officially verified.

Either way, David Gill is in Milan trying to conclude the deal according to press sources (The Times, iirc), so I'm hopeful.

BRMB sports recap (Radio, local to Birmingham just for the few who dont know) reporting Downing's been given the go ahead to negotiate terms with Liverpool.
