****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

You want a good music player? Buy an ipod.

Thats funny, I find the ipod only average in music playback. Its not one of the better players for music quality. The audio chip inside is only average at best.

My Desire plays better quality music than my iPod Touch.

Is it possible to transfer my gallery to a folder on a networked PC without plugging in the phone to USB?

Loads.

SwiFTP if you have FireFTP/FileZilla etc or Samba File Sharing to do it via Windows Explorer.

You can use ES File Explorer on the phone to do it all via the phone too.

No kidding. Through what exactly?

The built in speakers for reminding myself of songs on the way to my gigs, or I sometimes connect it to my car system via the earphone socket. Via my sony MDR EX71 earphones with custom settings on the phone to increase bass, it's not bad at all. Only gripe is lack of volume through earphones compared to my ipod.

Indeed and music sounds perfectly fine through my earphones + headphones as well.

All well and good. But how do you plug this phone into a "half decent" hifi?

I tried the bona fide Samsung Desk top dock - £29.99 - and the sound was borked beyond the extreme. Casual listening on headphones may be OK but Apple has samsung totally licked on sound quality into a half decent hifi (true dat)

ex71's are the worst earphones sony have ever produced. To be frank, they are not going to give you a fair representation of the phone can and can not do. but PLEASE put this in a separate thread or something as it's going to derail this one completely.

Sorry to ask a question which is completely different to the topic at hand, but I've had my handset for about 2 months now and was wondering what I can do with it. My previous handset was an iPhone 3G and I never really got into the jailbreaking side of things, I did JB it but found Cydia to be a horrible experience which wasn't helped by the limitations of the 3G's hardware so I quickly reverted back to vanilla iOS.

you can install custom roms but from the sounds of it you don't need to, at least just yet any way. imo custom roms took off whilst the older handsets were under powered and android wasn't as powerful as it could be. when i had my htc hero i's put something new on it at least once a month, since owning the sgs2 i haven't really thought about it as it works fine minus a few nicer features i'd like to see such as battery percentage in notification bar.

With this being my first Android handset I know that they are highly customisable and I'd like to try and expand my knowledge on it a bit. There are a few things I'm not happy with and would like to change.

Firstly, is there anywhere that I can get more themes for my SMS conversations?

i don't know about stock messagin app but i use go sms and you can change that in so many ways, there is even a theme called iphone theme :p i don't like it however you can have many different styles, colours etc.

Secondly is Swype worth sticking with?

i didn't, instead i downloaded official gingerbread keyboard from market place

Also there's one other thing which probably sounds stupid but I'm struggling to find anywhere that has decent quality wallpapers for my SGS2.

try googling for android wallpapers. there are loads.the trboule you have is you can have static wallpapers or ones that move when you scroll so it's hard to get the right dimensions for both types.

The standard icons are a bit boring and I downloaded GO Launcher EX which made the icons sort of glassy but they still look quite horrible.

i use go launcher and like the icons, but if you don't then just simply hold your finger on the icon you don't like and then select change icon. you'll off course need one to replace with but again a quick google should give plenty results

One other thing I've noticed is that some of the better rated apps seem to be developed by Chinese companies and as a result the instructions have quite bad English. Is this something that's quite common or have I just installed crap? I'm mainly talking about GO Launcher and the HD Wallpapers one.

prob just bad luck. i never struggle to read description.

Man, if you're into high fidelity, don't even think about phones. It is what it is, a basic music player on a phone. I'm into serious hi-fi too, and when I really want a fix, I listen via my big speakers or Senn 580's via my NAD, pc or Marantz CD player. Not that I'd ever namedrop you understand :p

Utter tosh. They have extremely crisp highs, punchy bass and decent midrange.

I'm beyond disclosing how much i've spent on hifi.

But I can tell you it's not BIG and it's not Clever to go there.

At all

fact. go read any decent review, on any forum. Bloated bass, recessed mids and trashy trebble. the ex85's i used to own (and my ex90's as well) were leagues ahead of them and even they are nothing compared to a decent set of IEM's. dont get so defensive and listen to a decent pair of earphones - you'll quickly retract that statement.

Depends really. There's the law of diminishing returns on hi-fi, but ultimately, you should end up with a fantastic system if you've spent thousands. Not that I've ever spent anything like that, but I'd like to if I could. Anyway, not to derail, back on topic.

I have a decent set of headphones, sennheiser 580's, which are laid back, warm, and just gorgeous to listen to anything on. When on the move, I enjoy the sony buds too. I've read loads of head-fi reviews and user comments years ago. I take it with a pinch of salt because frankly, those guys would find fault in the £1000 HD800's too. I don't doubt the ones you mentioned might well be superior, but I've never listened to music through the EX71's and thought "omg, trashy treble, recessed mids, bloated bass,... where's the dustbin"

I have absolutely no idea how you can own a pair of 580's and then go on to say the ex71's have a decent midrange and crisp highs. That literally does not compute. i have not heard a worse pair of earphones from sony and i've owned a lot of them - ed21lp, ex71, ex85,ex90, two types of over-head earphones that i cant find the model numbers for, nc22, and they're just the ones i can remember lol

Well, I use shure covers over the buds instead of the thin flimsy black ones that come with the earphones. They do make a huge difference.

Mine is coming on Monday :D can someone put my mind at rest and just tell me if the below shortcomings of the Desire HD i have now are improved with SGSII

1. Camera on DHD is kinda blurry and doesnt handle contrast well. by default it is zoomed in too much imo.

2. When video recording the DHD struggles when moving from light to dark, the sensor takes a while to catch up

3. DREADFUL loud speaker, Almost unusable

4. Proxitmity sensor basically doesn't work most of the time

5. Battery life is crap, i dont care if it needs charging every night i just dont want the battery to compromise how i use the phone (i have to turn stuff off when my battery gets low on DHD to make it a day)

6. Using the screen outside is horrible can not see anything

7. GPS takes a while to lock on and sometimes i lose signal when driving using google maps

Just a quick question.

Can you Plug a 360 controller into the SGS2 using that Nokia USB thing?

If so is it possible to use it with N64 Emu and the put the picture across to a HDTV using HDMI?

That would be sweet!

EDIT: Looks like you can on honeycomb loads of videos on youtube of people using 360 controllers on Xoom. can anyone conform galaxy sII can?
