Battlefield 3 no XP support

Just because its not supported doesnt mean it wont work...I've installed loads of software other the years that hasnt been supported by my OS or vice versa and they've still worked.

I bet you anything that BF3 works just fine on XP when its released.

Bet me all your money/properties and soul please.

Nope. I'll put all my money on it not working.

It's being built from the ground up in DX11, so ditch your dated consoles! oops I mean XP!

Never underestimate legacy support, emotions will run high.

You REALLY dont understand

Xp doesn't do DX10/11, only Dx9 and lower

BF3 ONLY runs in Dx10/11

BF3 CANNOT run in XP, it's not a matter of it being 'untested' 'or unsupported', IT WONT RUN

I hang my head in shame! I was wrong! lol

Surely they'll change their mind and update BF3 to work on XP at last second, or maybe after release with a patch...or maybe someone online, some programmer/geek will do some kind of a hack job and get dx11 to work on xp? would that be too hard to do?

Why not just move to with the times and stop holding on to dated software with little support for the future?

Why is everyone being so blinkered about this? Of course BF3 will support XP, it's just a case of a little more work being required and a little thinking outside the box.

  • Boot your XP machine
  • Open Internet Explorer 8 (remember you cannot use 9!)
  • Browse to OcUK
  • Purchase Windows 7 disc
  • Wait for post
  • Insert Windows 7 installation disc
  • Click "Install Windows"
  • Follow prompts
  • Play BF3!

You see, it's EASY to get BF3 to run on XP, you just need to remember the interim step first time you want to play it. I believe, after that first time, no additional steps will be required to play the game. As a by-product, you will also find many other aspects of your PC improve too simply by applying the above fix, or "hack".

I dual screen at work between 2 PCs (using Input Director to move mouse/keyboard from one screen&PC to the other) with XP on one machine and 7 on the other. Do you know the two biggest annoyances when switching between the two for me? Not being able to click Start, and then just starting to type the application name on the XP machine; and the BIGGEST annoyance for me is the smallest thing - when clicking to minimise a window in 7 the mouse still moves, in XP the mouse freezes until the window's finished minimising. To me, that kind of sums up that XP was great, but compared to 7 it sure does show it's age.

All EA has to do tho is send an email to microsoft saying "hey mate, we know a lot of you geeks over there are pre-ording BF3, so why not release a patch for xp to update xp to dx11, thanks, cheers"...job done lol.

About time really. Dx9 should be gone by now.

...and Crysis 2 was?

Do you guys gaming on xp still use IDE HDDs? Its called progress.

No, Sata. Even still, I don't use XP for gaming but I still have two computers that use XP.

Who the hell is on xp anyway? You have to move on sometime!

I triple boot. \o/ 7 is the main OS for my PC. Though I rarely boot into Vista/XP these days but it's handy to have.

Geez at the hate brigade.

Yeah I've noticed that on a lot of forums. It's like school all over again.

To be fair, the same was said for halo 2, which was dx10 only and a vista launch title to try and get people to upgrade to vista. It was cracked in less than a week to work on dx9.

Due to that, we'll see...

My personal view on this is there shouldn't be support for a 10 year old operating system which has been abandoned from microsofts support services. Using steam global stats as a source, windows xp (32bit and 64 bit combined to 20% total) are less than both windows 7 at just under 49% (32/64bit combined) with vista at 23% (same again)

Using the same data though, 56.36% of steam users have a dx10 capable graphics card with a measily 5.6% are directx11 capable. So not far off 40% of steam users won't have a system that can play BF3 on the PC. Bold move which could turn out either really well for graphics card sales or the game sells vastly less copies on the pc than projected.

Halo 2, famous for having an engine built from the ground up in DX10.

Wait wait! That's not right. Halo 2, Xbox 1 port, using an engine designed for DX8.1 surely?

Halo 2 wasn't DX10 exclusive, it was Vista exclusive. That literally was just some BS effort by Microsoft to try and get people to move on from XP.

Yep

haha at the low troll

i play on windows xp because it plays the majority of games and programs better than any other op its that simple

This USED to be true about 5 years ago when vista was the new thing and there was a 'biting point' just required to run Vista.

We all know Vista is awful, and back then yes playing a game on XP would be CONSIDERABLY faster (Mostly due to Vista being badly designed with awful system resource consumption)

Nowadays it's just not worth running XP.

Sure, maybe in one or two DX9 games you'll squeeze an extra 1-3 FPS out, but hardware is incredibly fast these days that it makes no difference what you game on as now hardware has the large overhead, not the software.

Fair enough if your on Core2Due @2.2, stay on XP.

But you've NO excuse if your banging a quad core or an i-series.

None whatsoever :P

dont microsoft stop supporting xp this year ?

2014 if I'm correct.

Who cares if BF3 won't run on XP. Just upgrade. If you can afford the PC to play it, you can afford to upgrade your Windows. 7 is better anyway. Really don't see this being a massive issue. Developers can't keep on supporting things forever.

Fair enough, yet you ignore everything else I said, included sourced statistics, well done
