Mostly Carron Valley as it's literally 10 minutes away, but at weekends if parents aren't too busy I do like to go to Glentress and ride Spooky Woods :D

EDIT: Frame is a Giant trance 2008 model, haven't actually got one yet though.

You want a 100mm or 120mm if its a Trance.

Crown race on, that was easy. Need to go get a star nut, fit it, then the rather nervy job of cutting the steerer...

Measure 58 times, cut once me thinks :D

Hey There

Wonder if you guys can help me out

Our work has just gone in for that cycle to work scheme - so I figured its time to get my fat ass into shape, and save a bit of cash in the process!

I'm looking for a bike that'll be able to hold my weight (around 21st circa. 300lbs), wont crack, and will last me a long time with proper maintenance.

I really like the look of the specialized hardrock sport 2011. Looks bad ass
But, don't want to get it - then faceplant the pavement when the frame cracks, or wheel buckles. Lol

I understand I may be better paying the extra for some hand made 36spoke wheels (especially the back), but haven little to no experience in this field at all!

Cheers!

Should be absolutely fine unless you plan on taking the bike down some 20ft drops!

Possibly going to get longer forks and i'll go for double ring with a stinger/superstar dual at somepoint too i think.

You came to a computer dork forum, and the first post you ask about speccing you a bike?

How odd.

If you search on google for bike this topic is the first on the list most of the time, probably the most single active bike thread there is on any forum.

Some advice please! I have a GT Avalanche 3.0 2008 that has been upgraded as parts have failed - currently running some Marzocchi MZ Race forks, Formula K18 brakes, Deore chain set and cassette.

Having had some good help and advise on here recently I'm after some help with the forks, under heavy braking the forks compress and also flex quite a lot - making for a very odd experience - i have tried to tighten up the spring and it helps but doesn't stop it happening but i think it is the flex (that is very visible) is this purely as the fork is a cheap low end model? (note this was not noticeable with the old mech discs, i guess they didn't have anywhere near the amount of power the formula ones do!)

If this is the case where should i go on an upgrade, the frame i believe is half decent and certainly feels better for lower weight chain set etc?

I ideally want a new bike and looking at a FS but probably not for this summer season so happy to spend a bit to improve the ride but don't want to waste money if its not going to be worth while!

Is it the actual fork flexing or is somewhere else it's moving?

Have you checked the disc rotor bolts and the headset?
