Damn my hesitation!!

Whoa whoa whoa. I've never taken these kind of measures towards someone being stupid or clumsy. Accidents happen, that's part of life.

It's maliciousness that bothers me.

I think you've misinterpreted that, I meant that the reason I would 'take action' in the future to try and prevent it happening again is the same reason I 'take action' to account for many other things in life.

Prevention is better than cure. If I can avoid a situation like this by ensuring I take certain details that perhaps the OP didn't, or photos or something, then that's the 'action' I will take in future. The same as I try and park near nice cars in the hope they give a toss and won't smack my doors, that sort of thing.

I wasn't implying you would go around kneecapping someone for stumbling into you :p

This thread literally has me head in hands, shaking my head. I mean really? Its a ridiculous mentality to think that causing more wrong, is going to teach someone not to do wrong. If anything its going to make them react even worse on the next incident.

People do stupid and terrible things, to think its acceptable to react in a worse manner makes you worse than them in my opinion. Too much to prove and a lot of growing up to do.

Well yes, I do a lot of the same things myself when parking. But if you could "cure" the problem of people not being considerate for one another, then you would no longer need to take steps to prevent it happening. :)

Behaving like a grade A colon?

By, for example, punching someone or pouring paint stripper on a car?

Still your own opinion Fox.

You can't though can you? If anything, as alexisonfire alludes to above, you'd probably just make it worse with the retaliation you suggest.

If you're the sort of person who would try and lie their way out of an accident settlement and your car gets vandalised a few months later, which of the following thought processes do you think is more likely?

"Oh crap, perhaps I shouldn't have done that, it was dishonest and look what resulted"

or

"God damn, this is why i'm glad I treat people like crap, because they're just scum who'll trash my car over a dented bumper dispute anyway"

I'm not really fussed about what they think - after all the retaliation is primarily to satisfy me. If they don't like it, **** them. If it changes them, then bonus.

lol @ the pages of ranting I just skipped as it got boring after the first page

Congrats on the result OP, worked out perfectly... Karma's a *****, eh? :D

Come on Hurfdurf. I thought we were cool? :(.

We are, BJ Penn owns.

Probably stand and bang I think.

If you are in the moment then sure, but afterwards when all is said and done, best case scenario, you gain nothing, you make the other person mad, nothing has improved in your life and the satisfaction you thought you would enjoy is completely hollow and nothing like you thought it would be like.

Worst case scenario you end arrested.

Vengeance begets vengeance.

God damn you people, way to completely derail the thread into a moral talk.

People react differently to different things. Some people suck it up and move on. Some people hate to get screwed over and will make sure they are satisfied in the end, that is all there is to it, really. It's what makes us human.

Personally, I can see valid things from both sides. I personally wouldn't do it over something so little, but depending on how big the primary situation was... well. I don't really know. Can't really say unless I was put in the situation itself.

Either way, why are we still doing this? We're going in circles getting nowhere when nobody is going to change the viewpoint of the other party.

Some people forget/forgive and others get bitter. I thought about going to damage the guy who hit my dads car but I didn't as I'm not a fanny.

It's fine if it's just some normal person but there's a few people I would not want to annoy and to make it stop you would have to nigh on kill them. If they have nothing to lose and you do then you are pretty much stuck.

The OP had his issues resolved and the thread took an interesting turn to a hypothetical debate on things like vengeance. Also I made a very funny BJ Penn / Joshy comparison that I feel was massively overlooked because of the undeserved lack of popular support combat sports have.

Google image search cabbage patch kid looking person named BJ Penn and then compare said person to Joshy to get a small insight into the joke.

This has been a top tier post bought to you by future mod and current elite crew top tier poster hurfdurf who may or may not be running for mod in 2012

The BJ Penn thing got a chuckle, and I'd never seen the West Wing so I'll look out for that in future. Two Obama-esque contributions.

Bemoaning the lack of 'lol' recognition responses and posting the same West Wing clip twice? Very Trump... :(

So you're happy to just walk away and shrug your shoulders? Let people like this carry on causing everyone else's premiums to increase simply because you won't stand up to them?

So you want to get revenge on people who put up insurance premiums by pouring paint stripper on their car, something that will end up with a very hefty insurance claim?

It doesn't take many braincells to realise there is something slightly flawed about this idea.

Wait, what? :eek::eek::eek:

**further update**

Other party is not letting this lie and now has demanded an inspection of both vehicles by an insurance assessor , Admiral have assured my this doesn't affect the claim and the cheque (now in my possession ) is fine, this is basically to shut the other party up.

So now I have to wait until after this before going ahead with the repair.

Total and utter to55pots.

I don't understand?! The insurer has paid out, and settled the claim, but they are still sending out an inspector at their own cost? For what reason? Have you cashed the cheque? If not, do so.

I think Admiral are paying for the inspection, but apprently this guy has been bombarding them with letters and calls since the judgment was made, so I guess they are paying for it to shut him up.

I can't begin to describe what I'd like to say to this individual face to face

I'd just think it was funny that he is wasting this amount of time & effort tbh. The claim is over, a judgement has been made and that's the end of it. If I were you I'd give admiral ridiculous times you would be available for the inspection.
