****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

I don't see anything about a COM Port, it's just the green android on the screen with Downloading Do not turn off target underneathe it.

Cheers

I'm guessing the latest firmware update for the phone (Kies software notified me today) doesn't really do anything special, seeing as nobody seems to be talking about it much? :p

Step 2: Download Insecure/Original Kernels from HERE

I just want to make sure I'm doing it right, is it the top one of the list I need?

GT-I9100_BOKE3_insecure - GT-I9100_BOKE3_insecure

Cheers

Think thats the T-Mobile kernel. If you goto settings, About what is the baseband version?/kernel?

But if I can't even get past Step 2: Download Insecure/Original Kernels from HERE how would I be able to use Odin?

Cheers

You can find the exact insecure kernel for T-Mobile thats what, there is more insecure kernels for the standard ROMs.

So you upgrade your ROM to XXKG3 and then you can match the insecure kernel to GT-I9100_XXKG3_insecure - password = odia@xda

Sorry I'm just not sure I'm folliwing here... If I want to put the I9100XXKG3 ROM on how do I go about doing it? When I get into Odin it just stays on the Downloading Do not turn off target screen.

Thanks

So you 1st need to download the ROM from

Flashing Firmware with Odin

1. Just download the firmware version you want from above and extract the .tar file in the archive and save it somewhere

2. Reboot your phone to download mode.

To get download mode shut down the device. After it shuts off completely simultaneously press the Down volume key+ Home button + press the power button .

You should see a warning asking you to press volume up if you want to continue or volume down to cancel, press volume up. You are now in download mode!

3. Start Odin

4. Click on the PDA button and browse to the .tar file that you extracted in step 1

If the package has more than one .tar archive then they will be labelled with PDA, Phone/Modem and CSC. Just put them in the corresponding section of Odin

5. DO NOT PUT .PIT FILE AND DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TICK REPARTITION.

Anyone ask about .pit file is a moron

Should look like this screenshot

If the package has 3 files it should look like this:

Regardless of firmware version it's still the same methodology

6. Connect the USB cable and wait for the ID:COM section to turn yellow

7. Click start to flash

8. Do not disconnect the cable or turn off the device, it will reboot when it finishes.

It will not wipe your phone if you flash as recommended

You will lose root so just re-root with the guide below

Right so in a nutshell... Complete the above steps, then install the insecure kernel GT-I9100_XXKG3_insecure. Then I will be able to install Cognition S2?

Yep

Use Odin to bring your rom up to date KG3

Then download the insecure KG3

Using Odin again flash the insecure kernel

Root via the superoneclick

Once you have Clockworkmod on there is simple updating to new ROMS

In the I9100XXKG3 firmware folder there are 3 .tar files, how'd I know which one I need?

There is

CODE_I9100XXKG3_CL401405_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKG3.tar.md5
MODEM_I9100XXKG3_REV_02_CL1040774.tar.md5

Cheers
