Juggy that looks ace, love the Canyons ... insane value for money too.

Yeah man, the value is great, I couldn't find a different bike for under £2000 that come close, for full XT and decent Fox shocks its more nearer £3000! So looking anywhere else on a budget was out of the question! Buying without trying is always risky but every single bike magazine and website has raved about it.

Getting used to a full susser will be intresting as i've always had hard tails. Hopefully going sherwood pines soon and maybe cannock as there both around an hour away via car :)

Right need a bit of help finding some online shops that deal in retro bike parts/bits designed for classic/town bikes. The girlfriend is after a bike to get about and wants something pretty, this i can handle an old Raliegh Mixte or something with fresh paint and some shiny parts will do, but i imagine there has go to be somewhere out there with parts that would be of use. Does anyone know of any?

Value seems amazing. I'm ordering a Nerve AM 6 in the next couple of days as I can't justify an extra £200 for the AM7 though that colour is lovely.

Geometry wise it seems fairly similar to my old (2003) S-works Enduro just with a little bit more travel so should be very good for everything other than balls out downhilling.

I keep lurking and reading this thread to get clued up on MTBing. I'm sorry for all my annoying questions but...

1: How many of you guys built your own bikes up from components? Is it cheaper doing it this way would you say? I don't mind spending all of winter hand picking components cheap and building up from scratch on a budget. Anyone any experience of this?

2: How many of you guys run a 1x10 gear setup? So 1 middle ring and 10 rear cassette? I think I want to do this. Experimented with the trails I ride and I never use anything but the middle front one on my mate's hardtail that I borrow for now.

3: Is buying a second hand full suss for <£500 really that bad? :( I can't afford more but decided pretty much now I def want full sus for the riding I do.

4: Is there such a thing as a good time to buy seasonally where by bikes are cheaper? What about second hand stuff? Do the prices tend to go down in Winter? September seems to be when sales start right?

Just my thoughts:

1) Very expensive way to do, and even more so if you dont fully know every single thing you're buying and that it's the correct item. Heck, I've been riding for years, and I bought the wrong type of headset for my commuting MTB :(

2) I'm not hugely convinced on the 1x10 argument at the moment - It seems that 9spd kit can be had pretty cheap, so simple/cheap to replace when things get broken/worn out. Maybe I'll be proven wrong in time.

3) No, not at all. My first suspension MTB was a £380 Carrera Banshee in 2000, lime green with red forks and a coil spring at the back. It could handle things a million times better than my old Raleigh solidframe, and I learned a lot about bike handling from it and it lasted about 3 years.

You don't HAVE to spend mega money on a full sus - But there does tend to be several 'limits' if you like.
£200 on a full sus is usually a very heavy bike, with weak wheels, poor components and is a hinderance more than a help.
£400 tends to be still pretty heavy, but with slightly better spec and wheels, usually wont fall apart after the first few rides.

^ My fiancee rides one of those, it hasnt fallen apart yet.

I'd recommend looking 2nd hand if your budget is around the £500 mark, and as I think has been mentioned a couple of times, see if you can pick up a lightly used 2008-9 Specialized Pitch comp.

ebay !

the actual bikes are a rip off on there because of trendy london art students spending all of dads money on them but theres 100s of ebay shops that are selling new old stock stuff for peanuts

for the bike/frame id try local tips/scrapyards/local paper/gumtree

Does anyone have any idea of what the Intense Carbine UK price will be?

I'm looking for a full suspension frame to replace the Stiffee and this could be an option....

Other options may be (and open to more):

Mojo
Five
Tracer 2
5Spot
.....
