Right im off on a stag weekend, which will involve booze and strip clubs. I need advice on what drinks to have, to survive each day without feeling like crap. I drink about 5 times a year if that so aint really clued up on it. I think i used to drink about 5 pints of lager, maybe have a couple sambuko(in the test tubes) and finish drinking vodka redbull the rest of the night, as too much lager makes me sleepy.
Im also quarter irish so i dont know if thats gonna make a difference?

Lots of meths, failing that eat raw chicken the night before.

  • Eat before you touch your first drop of alcohol. Critical.
  • Stay away from beer, and darker spirits, they contain more cogeners, which make you feel like crap. Not to mention staying on beer all night beer will make you need a wazz every 15 minutes. Gin & Tonics, Mojitos etc may be pricier, but they go down well with no bloaty feeling, and keep you more hydrated through the course of a night.
  • Don't mix your drinks, especially wine and just about anything else.
  • Have a pint of water every few drinks to stay hydrated.
  • Don't fall into the shots trap (stag weekend staple) if you know you're not a big drinker, else you will be a dribbling mess by halfway through the night.
  • Buy a pack of rehydration salts from the supermarket in the UK and take it with you (usually a pack of 10), take one in the morning with a pint of water. Sorts you out good and proper.

The above may get you a solid ribbing from your friends, but if you are willing to brave that then the above will go a long way to preventing alcohol-induced misery.

Good luck mate! :D

Seriously though eat bread or pasta about an hour before you go out maybe a steak - i found that really helps then when on the way home a greasy burger/kebab and then before bed some toast and OJ should help if you can keep it down!

Good luck on ur venture, and i am sure no matter how many good/bad advices you get, you will still get drink every night and be shown on cops with cameras in some random brawl :D

1. EAT before u drink
2. Do not mix wines
3. Do not lower ur alc % ( beer > vodka, no the other way around
4. stay on same drinks, mix it up with red bull, juice etc
5. alcozeltzer XS, sparkling water, vitamin c disolving tabs are essential for the morning

may the force be with you :D

Oh hell, I've got a stag do on Saturday, I'm gonna eat as much as I can at the meal, then try and pace myself drinking, and drink only Guinness obviously.

If ever there was a need for "worst thread..." then this must be it.

Why can't you just do that? You must've survived it ok last time.

Nothing ever works. It all goes out the window. Just resist commiting suicide during the hangover periods and you'll make it through to the end.

Four easy steps:

  • Eat and drink a pint of milk before you go out.
  • Stick to one type of drink.
  • Have enough but don’t get drunk (if you do, stop and have soft drinks).
  • Drink a pint or two of water when you get back home.
You don't have to get smashed to have a good night out.

Eat enough so you're not hungry but avoid eating too much though as you'll feel bloated and struggle to drink. I always find food and water at the end of the night helps reduce the hang over.

Avoid Guinness, the hangovers more pleasant

I always find powering through on the morning of a hangover quickly makes you feel better. The first pint is a ***** though.

This. Its all well and good people saying "eat before you go out" but they don't tell you what's best. Milk is good as long as its full fat. If you can, replace it with a lump of ordinary cheese (not the plastic cheese) although that may be hard to get some depending on where you are going.

The high fat value of cheese (and full fat milk to a lesser extent) slows down the absorption of alcohol so you don't get drunk as much. Have it about 30-45 mins before you go out.

At end of night - force 1 pint of water down your neck. You will feel better for it in the morning.

Massive point - when you eventually return to your hotel - drink two pints of water. It's an absolute buggar to get that last one in you, but you'll be free from hangover the next day

Great in theory, but if you are drunk as a skunk, (I mean totally wasted, and especially if you have been on beer all night), there is a real chance that you will pee the bed if you down two pints of water just before you go to bed. If you're too drunk you will go into a alcohol-induced, coma-like sleep, not wake up due to bladder pressure as you normally would, and just end up leaking everywhere.

That's some sound advice there.

All I would add to this thread is that vodka keeps me energised and chatty, instead of sleepy like beer. I usually stay on single vodka and coke all night, full fat for the energy.
