****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Mesh case? A must for the SGSII.

Where are people getting them for cheap?

Just fitted a Samsung brand screen protector PERFECTLY (I have always failed in the past, but this time used liberal amounts of sticky tape, cleaning and repositioning) and I'm amazed as to how good it is, especially at £3.50 for two, although I did ruin the first.

Edit: Oh and how different is the Samsung brand mesh case to the cheaper variants on sale at Mobilefun etc.

I've got to redo mine to get rid of air bubbles. I've got several spares as well, only cheapo protectors. How did you use the sticky tape? Did you pull the protector partially away from the screen once it was on and then use the sticky tape to pick up bits of dust stuck to it causing air bubbles? I was advised on xda to buy some 'magic tape' which is what I've done but not tried it yet.

Cant recommend the official protectors enough bearing in mind its £3.50 for two inc. postage on the bay and they arrived the next day. My mate didn't even notice there was a protector on it.

After screwing up my first protector and binning it - shouldn't have as with some TLC it would've been fine and I'd have had a backup - I did this:

1. Wet wiped the screen (provided with the protectors)
2. Dry wiped the screen (provided)
3. Wrapped normal sellotape around my fingers, and dabbed at every bit of both the screen and the sticky side of the protector - in order to avoid marks on the protector I actually held it with tape on the non sticky side.
4. Applied slowly, and if I noticed dirt I'd peel back a little, use the tape quickly and continue applying
5. Reapplied until it was straight and dirt free
6. Slowly worked out the bubbles with my fingers / thumbnails - I found the piece of card provided that I used on the first protector left some little scratches.

I'll up some pictures in a bit.

Edit: Added photos - bear in mind I didn't bother cleaning it - just a quick wipe with a tissue and the Desire camera leaves a lot to be desired.

Noob question: Does Odin flashing delete settings and files? I will try and see if Odin will install on my netbook. Does the phone have to connect to the machine in "Kies" mode?

Presumably the stock KG3 on XDA forums has just been taken off the Kies update server and is not modified in anyway? I just want a quick simple flash that will retain all my settings. On my old Nokia OTA did this, bit annoyed it is not as straightforward on this phone.

rp2000

it's purely down to the firmware you are trying to flash as to whether the phone will be wiped. whatever firmware you download, it'll tell you in the thread you get it from:)

as for kg3, no, its not on kies yet. All of the KG firmware have been leaked, which is why you havent seen them on OTA , and they aren't on kies either. That's what i mean by using odin and not having to wait :)

my contract is up ready for upgrade, hooray!

what is the vibration is like? i'm deaf and rely on heavy vibration from phone to get my attention easily. htc desire is fab at vibrating (no i aint gay :P )

my gf has iphone 4, vibration is really pant. samsung GS2 is very thin phone, almost like iphone 4. so wondered if its same as iphone 4's vibration?

cheers

I've got a Desire S here and just compared it to my SGS2. I'd say they were equal strength but the DS has a more "square wave" vibrate whereas the SGS2 is more "sine wave". Does that make sense? I guess your sensitivity to vibration is going to be more finely tuned than ours so as James.M suggested, have a play in a phone shop.

Weird issue (or possibly a stupid question!)

I've got Twitter and Facebook downloaded and syncing on my phone and it looks like ive also got the Facebook and Twitter "for Social Hub" apps syncing as well.

Whenever I go to link one of my Gmail contacts with a Facebook account (see pic #1) it shows me the proper Facebook profile (top one) then it shows an "unknown" one, which I'm assuming is the Facebook for Social Hub one.

Also does the same for Twitter (see pic #2), the 2nd "unknown" contact is the guy's Twitter account, but it never shows up as Twitter.

In the main contact list, does anyone have any Twitter icons next to their contacts? I only get a green square icon (which again, i'm going to assume is the lame "Twitter for Social Hub" crap?).

I've decided to remove both Facebook and Twitter social hub accounts, but when I did it, i noticed that i get more syncing options for both accounts (see pic #3!). For Facebook, it gives me the option to sync the Calendar/Contacts and Messages... but with the official Facebook app/sync, it only gives me the options for contacts :S

Am i doing this wrong somehow?!

Cheers!

Ok thanks, I'm sure this has been discussed earlier in the thread :p but what's the current best ROM options? I'm not too interested in custom additions, but getting a clean build as close the the android source tree as possible with minimal Samsung additions would be nice.

Its been pretty stable to be honest, as I have been running it most of the day. Its still very much WIP, as not all functions work correctly yet.

However, that said its very quickly and very stable at present. :D

I had been running the Villain ROM, but I have been having a number of problems with the WiFI and GPS. Oddly enough I don't have these problems on the Cyanogen Mod.
