****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

my contract is up ready for upgrade, hooray!

what is the vibration is like? i'm deaf and rely on heavy vibration from phone to get my attention easily. htc desire is fab at vibrating (no i aint gay :P )

my gf has iphone 4, vibration is really pant. samsung GS2 is very thin phone, almost like iphone 4. so wondered if its same as iphone 4's vibration?

cheers

I've just upgraded from KE7 to KF3 via Kies today.

:( The OTA update still shows no available updates.

Is there anywhere I can check when the newer KGx updates will be released OTA? Also is there any known issues with KG3? I just want to get rid of the bug on KE7 that starts the "WiFi Sharing" service/software which seems to eat a lot of my battery. Apart from that everything else works fine on KE7 although I am sure there are some under the hood optimisations on new firmwares that I could benefit from.

I might try and get Kies installed on a friend's machine. Not had any luck on my VMWare machines and the one W7 machine I have (a netbook) comes up with an installer error.

it's a bit strange to be honest mate. In the pocket the vibration is pretty average. If its on something, a desk or a worktop, then it's very good... Your best bet is to have a play with one in a phone shop and see what you think, i reckon.

No, nobody knows when (if) the KG firmwares will be officially released. KG3 is possibly the last KGx release we'll see, if i'm guessing right. It could be that KH1 is the next official release.

Anyway, kies/ota isnt the best way of flashing the phone because of the general instability of the program (not something I've experiencing personally). If i were you, i'd get over to xda and grab odin and the stock kg3 release. Safer flashing than kies and no waiting around. the kg firmware fixes a lot of issues, im sure the wifi sharing bug was one of them. I know i dont suffer from it, anyway.

Noob question: Does Odin flashing delete settings and files? I will try and see if Odin will install on my netbook. Does the phone have to connect to the machine in "Kies" mode?

Presumably the stock KG3 on XDA forums has just been taken off the Kies update server and is not modified in anyway? I just want a quick simple flash that will retain all my settings. On my old Nokia OTA did this, bit annoyed it is not as straightforward on this phone.

There's nothing wrong with the vibration on either. The iPhone 4 vibration isn't 'pants' at all.

Recieved my official Samsung case today.. love the feel of it.. like a velety feel on the hand.. nice look to. Thanks for the unintentional heads up Khaan.

What? He asked how strong the vibration is and I replied, how is that inconsiderate?

As far as I know, the vibrate function isn't designed for your ears...

I rooted mine last night using Odin and it doesn't remove any settings/files. I think installing some ROM's does though!

My wifi has stopped working all of a sudden. It tries to connect then disconnects. Im on litning rom 4.2. Any suggestions?

Edit: Just change encription type on the router to AES

My GS2 should be with me tomorrow. I cant wait.

On Vodafone I got the following (after 1hr on the phone as they kept transferring me to the wrong department)

Free GS2.
24 Month Contract.
£30 Per month.
600 Minutes.
Unlimited Texts.
500Mb.
*Free calls* to 0845,0870,0800 (not sure if this is good or just a ploy).
*Free* Saturday delivery.

Its my first proper phone, my last one was a Nokia N97 (which i sold to Mazuma after a day or two).

Just need to work out what case etc to get now.
