Everton are in for Joey Barton, can't help but think that he is the definitive midfielder that we need.
Barton ------- Fellaini ---------- Cahill ------------ Rodwell --------- Coleman
Early word from The Liverpool Echo - apparently Everton won't be able to afford a move for Joey Barton.
They report: 'The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a switch to Goodison Park after he was told he could leave Tyneside on a free transfer, and sources close to the player believe he would relish a return to Merseyside.
'But EFC would be unable to meet Barton's wage demands, and with Arsenal, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Stoke also monitoring his situation in the North-East, a return to the club he played for as a school-boy is unlikely.'
I was going to post last night, Everton can't afford big wages and the whole situation with Barton is he's on a quite insane contract.
Free transfer, if clubs could afford his wages they'd have received 15 offers already. No way Barton will leave a insane contract with a year to go, theres no loyalty in him, Newcastle fans that think he loves the club are deluded, he's trying to force their hand into another insane contract, nothing more or less. I'm sure Stoke/Everton and a few others wouldn't mind him, big clubs won't touch him with a bargepole, you might get him end of the season when his contract is up, but expect him to sign for the highest bidder, Everton's only chance realistically, is being one of the only bidders......... which is possible.
He's decent, he's not great, you'd get the same quality from a much cheaper player, but obviously a bigger risk, IE younger french kid but unproven in this league.
EDIT:- Actually I'd guess Joe Cole is in the same situation, silly wage, no one can match it, and he's simply not good enough, even on a free, for anyone with any sanity to give him the same wages, even PSG with silly money can just get someone better, not injury prone, not a diver, and proven in their league for cheaper.
Joe Cole left Chelsea, for Liverpool, literally for money, nothing more or less and everyone knows it, I'd pretty much expect him to stay until someone matches his wages or his contract runs out, the later being most likely. In Cole's case I somehow don't see him being the most likely English player to go and play abroad either, QPR seems unlikely now and PSG, I just can't see it.
