I was going to ask the same, in what capacity did you attend the Bristol riots?

So what were you doing at the riots?

Independent observer, it would be foolish to say anything other than that.

Why do you also want to join the Specials?

Because I believe the Police on the whole do a good job and to understand what changes need to be made to improve the situation, what better way to get first hand experience as an officer.

Why do people need youth clubs to not be ****s?

I grew up without one, as did most of my friends, I didn't vandalise, mug, and do other nasty things.

I dunno, perceived lack of opportunity, feeling of alienation from society, drugs, being brought up in one parent household, lack of a father figure. All these things probably contribute to some extent.

I didn't go to a youth club either, as I knew it was where all the town's troubled and troublesome youths went. I felt considerably safer knowing they were there with adult supervision rather than where I was.

They don't. It's just vested interests trying to jutify bad behaviour of others and get funding. This sums it up (Posted on another forum) :-

Goodness me, I didn't know youth clubs played such an integral part in young peoples lives today? I presume they are (or were, before they were shut) 24 hour operations and everybody that attended had to arrive and leave at staggered times to prevent groups of people going to and from them at the same time. I presume that the adults that ran them closed the roads off outside to any suspicious looking, older boys in cars that may have been looking to recruit younger, easily influenced members to join their own version of the youth club or sell them products from their very own mobile tuck shop

Youth clubs.

When I were a lad, you used to say you were going to the youth club to your parent(s) and do anything but go there. You'd go on the park near the youth club and hang around. You got beaten up if you actually went to the youth club! Mind you, I don't think they had music making facilities or sex education at the one I used to 'attend'. They may have had a tin with dried peas in it though. . . .and you got sex education on the park from the school slapper.

They don't want youth clubs. That's just what they've been programmed to say and they're too dumb to know what they really want. Of course, they all know they want to be rich and/or famous, they all know they are denied the opportunity to reach their aspirations by a cruel world that sneers and looks down on them. Oh yes, they all have aspirations. . . . quite how many of them are prepared to do the bit in between that aspiration and the end goal of achieving it, the getting of their lazy arses and doing the hard work, is an entirely different matter.

Why are our police so soft sometimes?

What is wrong with using charges (both on horseback and on foot with batons), water & sonic cannons, tear gas, bean bag rounds and rubber bullets to put a quick end to all this nonsense?

Why are our police so soft sometimes?

Because it's a no win situation for them. If the go in charge they are accussed of being heavy handed and insensitive to 'community concerns'. Not to mention if someone dies at there hand there could be another mcphearson report and accussations of instutional racism and the like

Plenty of people are brought up like that and do not join gangs

Why does it matter to them if they are accused by a few people of something, their job is to protect the majority of people who are NOT rioting. If kettling, charging in, detaining everyone, arresting and charging those who have been doing bad things (we have CCTV for a reason in this country) gets the job done then I'm sure the people whose property was being damaged would be in full support of the police.
End of the day, kettling and disabling the protesters via sonic cannons, beanbag rounds and rubber bullets, tear gas works.
Using water cannons also works.

Our police are just too soft

They need to find a white person who is willing to be sacrificed. Then tonight when things kick off, be REALLY heavy handed, batter people, trample them with horses etc etc, make sure nothing bad happens, and also make sure there is a lot of video evidence of them battering the white person, that way it's not racial!!!

There is a time and a place. The student protests of a few years back? NOT the time. These riots? The time. It is a matter of reasonable response.

And there is a difference between protesting and rioting. Shame on you if you cannot see it.

It's a matter of how aggressive the protesters are being with the buildings/cars/police.

The students were less aggressive, but the police failed there too by sitting back and letting them do whatever they wanted ... just like they have failed for the past 2 nights to prevent the rioters from damaging property.

I personally believe this is just the start and the police have made a huge mistake by not going medieval on the looters.

Now people have been shown to have got away with looting all the other **** stains of humanity around London are going to want their free stuff, the po-po need to pull their fingers out and go buck wild with water cannons and tear gas, also anyone caught looting should have any state benefits revoked.

As a resident living on the main thoroughfare between two of the affected areas (North Tottenham & Edmonton Green) I can say without doubt that the events of the last days have not been "Fun" by any means.

I have been watching and reading this thread through last night from a few pages back (page 70), whilst having to deal with groups of uniformed police officers outside my front door, large crowds and general unrest in the immediate area surrounding where I live.

Why should a whole, broad area be slurred by the actions of the minority and spoil things for the majority?

Simple answer?, the minority make sure they get noticed through such behaviour as was witnessed the last two days / nights.

In regards to the Riots being a "Response" to the death of a man in possession of an illegally held firearm, that to me, a law abiding citizen, is utter drivel.

Those looters, arsonists and generally anti social people involved WILL see justice. It may not be today, or tomorrow, next week or next year, but karma has a way of setting things straight.

It is not ALL of the kids' fault either, some of the blame attaches to parenting, (although with todays "molly coddle them, if you smack your child we will sue you and put your child in care" attitude from the Social services, is it any wonder parents sometimes have no control?) not to mention peer pressure form "So Called" friends to join Gangs or join in with some activity or other, legal or not.

The government is not without blame either..........................................................

As to if last night was the last of it? who knows..................................................Time will tell all.

Why are so many people so hung up on the "protest" aspect of all this?
All I see is freeloading scum seeing a chance of stealing a freebie n getting away with it. No type of protest could ever involve looting stores and torching them.

No more “ move back please” get the dogs, rubber bullets, bird shot and if they still not listening, live rounds! They might listen after that!!
