Cameron is only returning to stop Labour scoring anymore politcal points. This has escalated for the 3rd night in a row now, so if he continued to be on holiday it would be frowned apon.

This could stopped if the Police chiefs gave the go a head for the police on the ground to do their job without fear.

The Army is trained for war, not enforcing the law. I think it illegal to use the army against the countries own people. In the USA it is illegal to have the army on civilion us soil.

The US has the National Guard which they use.

I don't believe it's illegal for the UK to deploy their own troops in the UK if the government authorise it. You are also wrong about the Army being riot trained. They have to deal with that in the Middle East and if you read the whole thread you will see that we were discussing quite an animated squaddie on LBC last night who was trained for just such things.

FFS, my friends have had to evacuate their home with their 6 month old child due to the looting and fires happening in Colliers Wood :(

Yes, you're correct. They're completely different and in this case the army would be more effective.

However I'm sure you know more than me when it comes to the police (not being sarcastic) so I'll take your word for it.

I don't detect sarcasm. :)

I just don't think the army is the answer. It may take large scale mutual aid from further afield but police are capable of retaking the streets.

This has nothing to do with ******* cuts or anything else, it isn't even a riot.

IT IS LITERALLY CRIMINAL GANGS THAT HAVE DECIDED TO TEAM UP AGAINST THE POLICE, THAT IS ALL THIS IS, ITS A CRIME SPREE, NOT A RIOT, NOT A PROTEST

This x 1000000

birmingham according to twitter

I have seen tons of pictures of riot police in Birmingham but no pictures of anything really happening there, why don't they move those riot units to help in London? No point having them standing around when they can be helping to protect the capital.

Surely the world will be worried at how badly this is going for the police here? Think about when they have several million more people during the Olympics and the police stretched even further, are the police going to be able to cope?

I hope you're just fishing with that frankly stupid post.

No, I'm not. I'd love to be able to take a simplistic view of a thousand of people rioting around the country, but it wouldn't be right.. This is the result of an accumulation of wide ranging social issues. I suppose you think it's got more to do with the rise in price of a Kentucky Fried Chicken meal?.

Lol, you guys are getting so mad. I would wager that the majority are Tory voters too. The bleeding irony..

I sympathies with the rioters. I see great tension in society, a lost and hopeless youth, people losing houses and businesses left and right; huge sweeping cuts resulting in all sorts of hardship, and I can at least understand why this type of thing is not only happening, but will become more and more prevalent over the coming years.
To think otherwise is imo very naive.

So watching people breaking into peoples homes and businesses, looting, attacking the police, setting fire to buildings without thought for the occupants doesn't anger you? Who the hell do you vote for?! The loony-anarchist-lets-set-fire-to-the-world party?

Those morons don't know or care about 'social tensions', they're out to cause trouble and steal from people. To think otherwise is very naive imo.

what by standing there looking like morons??
Really get a grip the time of standing around like a bunch of impotent manhoods at a strip joint has gone. Force is needed now to quash this or expect it to go on another night...

No control? The reason this has got out of hand is because the police are damned to hell by the media every time they show a display of strength. The police can't win against that, hence they are holding back, and so things look/are worse than they otherwise would be.

Yes, no control as you go on to give your own explanation for.

London is burning, and politicians will be flapping. The met was on it's knees before this happened, apparently morale is at a serious low. Fires are raging without response, this is across the whole capital.

But no, lets stay on holiday and pretend like nothing is going on ;)

The problem with steaming in and locking people up is it takes officers off the street.

the met could do it on their own quite easily i'd imagine if the higher ups would stop worrying about looking like their showing the scrotes respect and understanding and worrying about lawsuits.

they need to show them who the biggest gang in London really is

these feral animals only understand violence so give them a taste of some

If a riot does break out than the riot police will be in London :S
