Not when you're at a school that is so far down the league tables the only teaching staff they can attract can only be described as the dregs.

Not when the facilities that you have to learn in are terrible.

Not when you've got to deal with friends being sucked into a life of gang culture, or drugs, or alcohol abuse

Not when you don't have the support of one good parent, much less two

Not when it is effectively programmed into you that you will fail at life and yet again continue the vicious circle that you were born into.

Etc.

So no, not really.

Single parents, gang culture is that the governments fault? I undestand how having poor facilities can impact your studies and can be down to council or government not caring. Still there can be no justification for all that is happenning.

I have missed a lot of tonights shenanigans but i did see that Sky News reporter go up to some kids who were throwig things at a shop window and laughing and said

"Hey, is this fun is it?"

Took some guts.

I bet a lot on here went to poor schools, I for one did. A very bad inner city comprehensive in the third most deprived borough in the country. I managed to get to a top 10 uni, and did ok,
Life's what u make of it. We are lucky in this country we get a decent education.

Well good for you, unfortunately in the real world you can't say "look, 0.1% of inner city comp pupils succeed at life, therefore the system is working perfectly".

That's the fault of the children who attend it (/their parents).

Not when the facilities that you have to learn in are terrible.
See above.

Exactly.

" governed by consent, normally people don't react like this "

Meaning what?

Joshy, I guess you went to an inner London school. You seem to want to go on and on about how horrible life is, so I'm guessing you had a tough time as well.

But... whats this? You... are sitting here. On a computer you bought for yourself. With a full time job you secured for yourself. You are not smashing up cars or setting fire to things.

You are therefore proof that we are right - it's just crap mindset and excuses. Yes, things could be better, but this is no excuse for what is going on. None at all. It's perfectly possible to not be a criminal degenerate just because you didn't go to Eton.

I had what many of the people that I have known who are probably a part of the problems in Croydon never had, a good, loving parent.

And even that alone is not enough. I can think of about a dozen times when I could have fallen into 'That' life but for whatever reason fate has kept me out of it. Just because I sort of 'got out' doesn't mean that I can forget what I have seen on the sidelines.

At the end of the day, life is hard for many of the young men and women out here. I am not, and I repeat, I AM NOT claiming that this is a full gone justification for what they have done, but it is a little bit of a reasoning as to why they have taken to the streets in the first place. They are not happy and saying that they have had just the same opportunities as yourself or even me is wrong.
