Communities need to stand against this. You only have to look at the Turkish and Muslim communities to see why their areas aren't being trashed. These people know not to **** where they eat.

I never realised how many scummy people live in Britain. I dont think it's likely that this type of things happen in other parts of the world, because they have communities. We have very few.

Yeah its sad really:(

I think it will calm down by tomorrow.

Can't see it going on for much longer, since there is no reason for doing it.

tonight will be copycats in other major towns with feral youth population...
It only takes 30 dickheads and a few swigs of cheap sider in the school holidays to give 15 year old kids the balls to smash somethign up... and its fun too....!

Being SOFT does no good either, people get the idea they can get away with murder, being soft allows people to walk all over you and that is what the rioters are doing.

exactly, the riots think they can get away with anything as all the police do is stand there

Why do people keep spouting about guns. Lethal force wouldn't be proportionate. Get a grip.

Armed officers do not got involved with public order disturbances because they can not run the risk of being disarmed, this is ACPO guidelines.

As Burnsy said, you can't shoot someone because they are throwing stones.

*laughs*

Bojo to be "out and about" this afternoon, to give reassurances...

What reassurances can he give? um...er...well...um.. pfff.... we invented riots you know..

I was wondering, what could you do with the LRAD Microwave emitter with a bit of judicious overclocking......

Behold! A masterclass in crowd control. :D

It'd cut right down on reoffending, benefit claims and avoid the prison space issue.

Really?! Source?

"Sir Paul said one reason water cannon had not been used is that the Met did not own any. It was reported last year that the Met had considered buying six at a cost of £5 million.
The cost in the wake of Whitehall budget cuts would, therefore, be a major consideration.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan police said that all forces in England and Wales had been cleared by the Association of Chief Police Officers and the Home Office to use water cannon. No force had opted to deploy them so far, he added."

But we have a short term problem which is mass burglary, violence and arson. Worry about the long run once the initial issues have been resolved.

How will heavy handed tactics stop that? If people want to rob places, there is nothing you can do to stop it. You just have to have faith that the people responsible will eventually be brought to justice.

Police presence is all that is required right now.

Spot on. If these people came round my neck of the woods in Bradford and tried smashing up our cars, i swear theyd get strung up. Theres at least 20 odd young 18 - 25yr old lads on my street alone, who would all be game. Everyone knows everyone here, so where all right.

Source please.

Something like this perhaps?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/jul/20/one-in-ten-police-on-streets

Just one in every 10 police officers is available to tackle crime at any one time despite year-on-year budget increases over the past four decades, a police watchdog warned today.

Sir Denis O'Connor, Her Majesty's chief inspector of constabulary, said an average of only 11% of officers and police community support officers (PCSOs) were able to meet frontline demands.

In some forces only six in every 100 officers were on a duty visible to the public during peak Friday night hours while larger numbers worked on quiet Monday mornings, he said in his report Valuing the Police (pdf).

So what exactly are water-canons gonna do other than protect 'certain' areas by forcing the little rascals out?
Hows that gonna solve the problem and protect residence?

There's about 35 strangers who offered to help clean Evans Cycles in Camden, they'll clean up the saibsburys local after forensics has finished up.

Heavy police presence on Camden road and most shops still have their shutters down
