This isn't about poverty.

This is about mindless thugs that think this is fun. Race, background and environment doesn't make this happen. Thuggism, herd mentality and idiots cause this. Don't even blame anything else or look for excuses.

I understand the allure, having spent a good few years smashing windows, torching cars and tagging during my early teens because there was bugger all else to do and a lack of parenting. Almost all of the lads I ran with back then are now in dead end lives on council estates, I got my crap together and got out.

Boredom and lack of responsibility are the key factors, and they are most prevalent in poor environments.

Edit: If it was me 20-25 years ago, i'd probably be part of the problem.

i can see it too. i also saw the people helping to save the animals from the pet shop were all white too. i'm seeing a pattern here.

Was watching it live from when it started happening yesterday, pretty much all the initial trouble (outside of the initial stop and search drama) was very young people with a scattering of skin headed white guys pulling the strings... Its scary to imagine there's gangs pretty much using children to do their dirty work in this day and age.

Well it would help by making it much much much easier for the police to combat/disperse the mobs setting things alight, looting, assaulting, and on the whole destroying peoples livelihoods.

without water cannon: police stand there with shields up deflecting missiles and retreating as mob sets cars/buildings on fire, loots shops, assaults people, etc.

with water cannon: police break up mob and advance as rioters retreat.

why dont the shops have metal shutters that come down , we have them round here on the offlicense and post office..

They do but you get what you pay for, some you can just bend out then slide out a rail, others only have one fixing on the bottom, you can see the ones that are better as the idiots don't bother touching them.

On any other normal day they are all fine but when idiots are given unlimited time and numbers to break in they are all going to give in.
