make the police not outnumbered 10 to 1. then the police could actually do something rather than milling around in a street then retreating when the horde comes.

as a lot of people have been saying, boots on the ground would be a massive help, and i for one dont mind if they are police or army

Listen to me. Water cannon and plastic bullets are used to repel people backwards from an asset. They are used to provide the police with room and increase the distance between people and the police.
This is not happening in London. There isn't a stand off between police and rioters. The rioters are roaming the streets doing as they please. They aren't standing up to the police or going to attack one building (as seen in the Student protests).
1 water cannon (as let's be honest, we're not going to get many more than that from NI (though I doubt we'll ever get 1)) is not going to stop this. Having a few officers in Croydon with plastic bullet guns isn't going to stop shops being looted in Tottenham.

Also if we bring out rubber bullets it could escalate some the violence in that firearms maybe used. Yes a lot are chavs, but some ARE hardened criminals and wannabe gangsters.
 
Even in times like this i find it hard to take Borris seriously .. there's just something about him.

Although, he's got history for getting stuck in with criminals ;) maybe its time to suit him up, get him on his bike and roll him out onto the front lines, everyone needs a hero! Lol
 
For those that live in the affected areas, are you tempted to attend these riots to experience the buzz of the atmosphere? I don't mean looting and causing trouble, just standing back and watching all hell break loose.

I must say that i am tempted as i live about 15miles from brum city, but i thankfully have common sense and will be doing some decorating at the house instead.

But the mods weren't in there thousands. The Police were.

The largest mobs have reported as a few hundred.

Weren't there over 6,000 police on the streets?
