Riots in Tottenham, London! (NO RACIST COMMENTS)

Thats fairly idiotic as the army supersede the police and it should be the other way around.
No, they don't. This isn't GTA where your sixth star calls in 'bigger guns'. There's a good reason the military don't usually patrol our streets and if we were to call them in I'd much rather it wasn't just to put in martial law in our largest cities.

I dont think you have a clue how these things are used.
Outnumbered police carry them at all time in NI the LR's or cars, they can dispell a small group from advancing, you dot HAVE to have a riot line, you arnt firing LOTS of them, you fire one or two down the street or if they are closer fire them at the ground and let them bounce up, they are deterrent, they are VERY VERY painful things to be hit buy. A water cannons effect is a lot of being a bit mad when it screams down the road. they work when things get out of hand, its why they exist, the water cannons have proved HUGLY successful in NI to dispel small and large groups who have been running street to street.

Water cannon is useful for concentrating rioters into one area and then contained. However, we also need a plan for what happens when they are there.
We're getting very hung up on water cannon, and I think another thing we haven't really touched on is that it's highly likely that NI wouldn't be that happy about providing one of their 6 assets to London. I understand there are still major marches planned and I doubt they'd want rid of a major asset during that time.
What happens in NI isn't what is happening in London. Over there it's a group v group thing, over here it is not. You are comparing apples and oranges and suggesting that you can use the same tools to combat the problem. You can't.

For those that live in the affected areas, are you tempted to attend these riots to experience the buzz of the atmosphere? I don't mean looting and causing trouble, just standing back and watching all hell break loose.

I must say that i am tempted as i live about 15miles from brum city, but i thankfully have common sense and will be doing some decorating at the house instead.

I was going to drive through croydon to have a look at whats going on, then thought my car might get attacked so better not

Is there any confirmation on what the police are going to do beside increase numbers?

Or are they waiting to see what happens before opening up cans of whoop-arse?

Hopefully whoop-ass cans will be opened. There were hints that the police response would be more 'robust', and that the lack of aggressive police activity the previous night was due to the fact that they were totally outnumbered and couldn't afford to escalate the situation.

But the mods weren't in there thousands. The Police were.

The largest mobs have reported as a few hundred.

Weren't there over 6,000 police on the streets?

6000 police to protect London. The mobs aren't all over London, they are in a few areas. I suspect that the mobs are generally a much larger size than the police in that specific area.

Let's hope you're right, it would be a humiliation of epic proportion for the country if it were necessary to have troops stationed on city corners in mainland Britain.
Agreed. Out of interest, does anyone know when the was last time a Western country enforced martial law in its cities?
