Orange Monte Carlo

Maybe:

- he just wants the bigger/better screen (that's if he has an SLCD desire)
- doesn't need to have the latest greatest tech for just normal smartphone use
- can't afford to buy the GS 2 or sensation out right like most of us

But I agree, I wouldn't upgrade from the desire to a MC either.

Most people have contracts and the SGS2 and Sensation are pretty damn cheap on those.

If you're poor then just keep the Desire :p

better screen? isn't the MC a TFT?

Doesnt look all that bad. My sister and dad have san frans and they are not really clued up to top end smartphones, Seems perfect for that kind of consumer

This looks a better option for my dad because he has fat fingers :D he only got his san fran a month back

Yes the MC is a TFT screen, but IMO I think the quality of it looks excellent and a few other people have also mentioned that it is certainly very good.

Just something about all of the HTC devices that use LCD screens, they all look like crap IMO, even the sensation with the high resolution looks pretty poor and the rest of their devices that are bigger than 4", look terribly washed out, taking the lead is the desire HD.

I would most certainly have the MC screen over a desire SLCD any day of the week, however if the desire was AMOLED, then obviously AMOLED would destroy the MC screen in terms of quality.

The Incredible S 4" screen is SLCD and looks great. I bet the MC one isn't all that good, much like the Desire HD at best I imagine.

Yeah, that is the only screen that I have seen by HTC that actually looks decent using SLCD.

One thing for certain IMO is the MC will have much better colours than the washy colours on desire HD, in all honesty I would say the desire HD is one of the worst screens I have seen on a smartphone that is top end (for last generation), even some budget/cheaper android mobiles screens look far better than it.

Just don't get why the colours look so washed out on HTC devices larger than 4"

I didn't think the Desire HD screen was that bad, it certainly wasn't the abomination that many people suggested it was. The viewing angles really let it down though, much like with the Sensation.

I don't think the original LED Desire will ever be surpassed in quality and design by any other HTC phone for a long time, if ever.

Well, most screens that use LCD look bad when viewing them from angles.

But I found even looking straight on at the desire HD screen to be terrible.

Also, quite a few people have mentioned that the MC is pretty good for viewing angles.

I think the contract prices are similar to how I perceived the San Francisco prices, a bit un-competitive. If you can afford to put a reasonable amount of cash (~£70) up front then you can get some pretty good deals on the Galaxy S II. So contract wise I do not see why you would get this over the SGSII.

To me it's main strength is it's pay as you go price, just like the San Francisco. I think it makes a great budget handset on pay as you go or for people who already have a SIM only contract. If I was in either of those situations I would be definitely taking a look at this.

Surely if you have a Desire the logical upgrade is the Sensation or Galaxy S II. Why go to a budget phone?

Because I don't I want to keep paying £25\month for a contract when I make the same amount of phone calls as a deaf mute. Plus, my desire is getting a little old in the tooth, had it since release.

I'm even half tempted to just get a tab (iPad\Xoom\whatevertakesmyfancy) and get a PAYG dumb phone so people can reach me, just so I won't have to do the whole "oo, HTC Orgasm has come out, but the Samsung Galaxy S 3 is on the horizon, or the LG Optimus Smell-o-vision... Which do I get?!" :p

So, the MC, with it's bigger screen, Android OS, unlockability, should tick all the boxes for me. As all I want is gmail, net and play SD video.

But! I'm waiting until Mr Jobbie gives his announcements regarding the new iP, and if there is going to be a budget iP and what storage\screen it has.
