Good driver vs Bad Driver

Arguably the driver who can squeeze through the gap has better awareness of how much space he is using. If he doesn't hit you or force you (or another vehicle) to change course, what's the problem?

The problem is that by squeezing through you are not allowing for any potential problems that may arise during the maneuver, for example the cyclist hitting a pothole etc

It would be the same as saying you have better spacial awareness because you can sit 2 inches from the car in front and not have an accident.

OP: What kind of batty boy has a video camera on his push bike?

I just don't understand why. I drive a car and don't have a camera installed for when a cyclist jumps a red light and nearly hits me.

The reason they do this is because they are a hell of a lot more vulnerable than car drivers, it also gives them video evidence of any accidents they may arise, also a lot of drivers have a camera for exactly the same thing

I get this quite a lot and it's worse when it's a bigger car. You end getting sucked out a bit once they go past!

What I hate more is the scared women drivers who won't overtake for ages! I can be sat at 26 through a 30 and they sit behind for absolutely ages and then squeeze past at stupid times. Then you hit a red light 10 seconds later and they literally push you into the kerb even though I can pull away fast then she can and she has to wait behind me for ageeeeeees again.

Does my **** in!

batty boy?

plenty of people have cameras installed in their bikes, cars, vans etc.. they all 'batty' too?

When you gonna show your face in the other thread again mate?. Or maybe you could just start a thread in bikers cafe explaining just why all motorcyclists are obviously homosexual because they wear leather...get right out to your target audience...

I kind of felt for you last time, but know I just think you're moaning for the sake of it.

FWIW, I'd pass you that closely too. I'll make my own decisions on whether I believe there is enough space to overtake the annoying cyclist - especially one riding closer to the middle of the road than he is the edge.

Also, why are you riding so far out in to the road? You see, most of our cyclists are good over here and get in reasonably tight (no one expects you to ride with your wheels dragging along the curb) that you can actually overtake them with cars coming the other way on most roads.

It sounds to me like you want excuses to moan about other road users.

wow, a fan, how lucky I am :)

I took exception to your previous post because you came across as yet another wannabe power ranger who thinks filtering is your right and not a privilege, if a car drivers fancies removing that privilege then more power to them, if said car driver then benefits from a "chat" from a leather clad tombstone-to-be further up the road then that just makes me giggle.

So in summary I'm not your mate

I didn't bother replying to you in the previous post because your level of retorting wasn't remotely interesting me and you were just rolling, equally I won't bother replying to any further snipes in this thread unless you do an about turn and actually post something with a modicum of relevance/intelligence.

furthermore, you can keep your bike forum chap, it fits you real well

Ever ridden a road bike on a B road at any sort of decent speed?

Now I've got 110+psi in my tyres I can kick ass :D

I can only assume that the previous double pinch flats were simply due to not enough pressure. Just another failure in Ribble's customer service/delivery of a new bike.
(yea yea, I should have checked them too)
Anyway,
on the flat I'm now cruising at 21mph

I tend to run 100f/110r for our roads! It's amazing how easy it is doing that sort of speed, a little bit more effort and I keep a steady flow with the traffic in the city!

I do about 12+ miles a day and get at least 5 cars that come close to knocking me off every time I go out, some just don't care or understand how to overtake a cyclist, I have had a few verbal altercations with idiots thinking they own the road and cyclists have no right to be on the road.

I stick to A roads and always try to aim for quieter roads, when I go on B roads I sometimes wonder if I will get wiped out by some boy racer or idiot doing 60+

I came off my bike last week, my own fault road was wet/greasy turned in and came off at 15mph and it hurt.

I guess this is something I am going to have to get used to, I am doing 26 a day.
I've never done the commute thing before so all my rides in the past have been outside of rush hour tards.
It actually amazes me that people drive like that. I would never shove myself into a gap driving my own car like some of these idiots are doing to me.

I should have expected it though I must admit, I see some crazy moves when in the car by some that are in GOT TO GET TO WORK mode.. that or they are still half asleep and just not looking.
I can't say I drive steady or to be honest that sensibly sometimes but I never put peoples lives at risk in doing so. (Just my own :D )

Yes.

In fact last year I was doing between 10 and 30 miles at least twice a week much nothing but B roads?

Nice one but surely you know not to ride so far into the kerb?

You are clearly different from the rest of the population.

I cycle where the cars left wheel would be because:

It's smoother with less potholes
No wet drain covers
Room for error when idiots pass too close
Gives a bit of room if there's a gust of wind

I do look behind to see if there are cars wanting past and if there is I'll ride in a little bit to make it easier. I do about 30 a day 4 days a week commuting + other rides of around 30 miles.

Some drivers just hustle through even if it's a tight gap.

I prefer to drop a gear and indicate when overtaking a cyclist. Seems the most sensible thing to do. 10 years ago my instructor said to leave a 1 metre gap between myself and the cyclist anyway so I just stuck to that rule really.

Install a motor on that bike pronto.

I see no disadvantage over you getting a motorbike instead of your pushbike.

I just don't feel safe cycling on the road. I always get this feeling some fool is gonna come from behind and knock me off. I very rarely cycle anywhere anyway.
I know i'm not supposed to ride on the pavement, but i'm much less of a danger to the people walking on the pavement than a danger to the drivers in their cars.

The thing is it isn't you that is the danger to the cars. It is the impatient muppets in cars that think bicycles have no place on the road that are actually a danger to you.

Mike you have obviously never heard about riding defensively have you. You do it to stop muppets squeezing through when overtaking. Remember it only takes the driver on the opposite side of the road to swerve a little causing the car squeezing past the cyclist to swerve an the cyclist is then pizza. That road to me does not really look wide enough for two cars and a cyclist to be all abreast 'safely'. There are however some roads that are.
