****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

quick question guys. about to buy my gf one of these. i have one and it has been rooted. ive seen one for a good price on a network other than hers. When you root the phone, does it automatically unlock the carrier. if not, then how can this be done?

Cheers guys

Constantly amazed by the camera on this. Was in London last week and took a lot of pictures and this one was so clear.

Yep, it's the first camera that I actually use as a daily snapper instead of a standalone. It's that good.

Shame you got a bit of arm in the bottom. Maybe a bit of cropping is in order :)

Got my SGS2 yesterday, and im hooked, love it.

SanFran has been given to my smaller, younger, and chubbier brother :) whilst i boast with the glory of my phone.

My dad wants it now, and his contract is due for an upgrade soon, so i think he might be getting it :p "I don't like my phone anymore" is what he told me :)
...............

I love the camera, so nice and quick, but the quality is also astounding, really clear and brings out blacks, whites and reds more than any camera i have used myself.

Haven't tried video as of yet but i will be soon to test quality, also the front facing camera, its steady and does its job :) (skype video calling or vlogging w/e)

Anyway...

It was a vodafone upgrade, and they are unlocked as standard, however i cannot for me find a way to activate my data connection (GiffGaff) so i can go on the web outside of my home.

Doesn't have the same icons as my SanFran.

Anyone know what i mean? So it will allow me to connect to the web using my internet allowance (3G/HSDPA connection)?
...............

Everything aside, its a beautiful phone, its thin, and extremely light, and its big screen is a yes yes for me :)

I think this thread may be my new home so, thanks guys :) ill spend the next couple of days trawling through the 300+ pages.

:)

Has anybody else had a problem of sometimes, when ending a call that has been made or received via a blue tooth car kit the SGS2 screen stays on/lit?

I am a IT field tech covering most of the UK and spend a lot of time on the road placing a lot of calls and have this issue almost daily. If I left my phone in my bag/pocket I'd never know the screen was on but it definitely stays on.

It just sits on the pattern lock screen, lit up.

I have now realised this problem is not limited to after making a phone call. My SGS2 just sat on the internet browser the other day, didn't dim the screen or put itself to sleep.

This annoying caught me out last week. I must have made a bluetooth call with the phone in my pocket, didn't realise the screen hadn't switched off and this finished the battery off.

Even after an 18hr day the battery has never gone flat on me before so definitely odd behaviour.

Could it be some app causing this problem? How do I go about pinpointing the problem source?

That does sound strange. It's not something to do with it waiting for voice commands or anything like that? how about installing something like juice defender...will that override the screen timeout?

Bingo, works out at a great price if I include resale value in 12 months time and it lets me upgrade much sooner.

That other deal for £12 more for 100 more minutes and 500MB more data would have been nice though, shame I didn't spot it.

I went with a 12month contract at launch with Vodafone. £40 a month and paid £89 for the phone. Got cashback with Quidco as well so total cost of ownership is nice and low and I can upgrade after 12 months.

Have you setup the GiffGaff APN properly? Mobile data should be on as standard. This app will do all the setup for you:

Two problems I need help & advice with please:

1. Battery - For some reason in the past few days the battery barely lasts a day on standby. I have no idea why, wifi/bluetooth is turned off, the screen brightness is at the lowest setting but the battery drains around 5-10% a hour when I'm not even using it! What could be the problem/solution?

2. Wifi - This is annoying aswell, for some reason my Galaxy won't connect to my home network unless I turn the phone on/off and keep connecting/reconnecting to my wireless network. The router is a Netgear router if that helps.

Would really appreciate some help with this please :(

Hey was just wondering if anyone has had their GPS completely stop working? I was trying to use Copilot to get somewhere and it was not detecting any GPS satellites, so I also tried Maps and that had the same issue. I tried a reboot and that was a no go and also switched it off and tried that and still nothing. Only thing that sorted it was a battery pull

Hopefully it was a one off but it got me a bit worried lol.

Does it get warm whilst in standby? Only asking as I've just returned my phone to 3 as the USB port appears to be broken (see me previous post for details). Basically the phone thought it was plugged in, even when it wasn't, it would get warm and drain around 5-10% an hour. Easiest way to check is look at your battery stats and see if it says it was charging even when it wasn't plugged in.

Its probably not this, but thought I'd mention it:)

I'm stuck between 3Mobile and T-Mobile, both offer similar deals just need some convincing :p I browse the web a lot so need fast 3g!

Also being able to use skype would be a bonus! :D

On the T-Mobile coverage checker It states 3g signal in my area to be "Very Good"

Play some high profile MKV's and be amazed how easy it plays it and the lushness of the screen.

Take that Asus transformer with it's half arsed Tegra SoC. :p

Ha, Transformer no more, was a *cough* swap *cough* so ye.

Used my tablet maybe 3 times a week properly, so it was more of an impulse buy.

I use my phone everyday, and with the camera, ooft, i think i've made the right choice :)
