****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Whats the best rom / firmware to be running? been outa the country for a few weeks now and am pretty behind on whats current. A link would be great thanks. :)

Sorry to quote but can anyone drop me a some info. Its been awhile since I updated and rooted in which time theres a big list of firmwares and even more roms. Im happy for the stock rom for now i guess but would like the latest firmware.

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know why my Lite'ning ROM 5.0 with Ninphetamine 2.0.5 kernal doesn't work with bln?

dont know mate, there's a few people on xda who seem to have bln running fine with lite'ning 5 and the nin 2.0.5 kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16441592&postcount=10915

is it incompatible with something else maybe ?

kg7 'official' is the latest from samsung (leaked, not officially released). lite'ning 5 is probably the most complete custom rom based on kg7, cm7 nightly builds if you want to live on the bleeding edge.

KG7 is official, it's just not for this region.

So I finally bit the bullet and root and flashed on the Villain Rom 2.4.2 last night. Wish I'd done it weeks ago as the battery life in just in a different league. I've had it running for the last 14 hours and its showing 66% battery remaining. Thats using wifi, data, apps, 15 minute mail sync etc so not heavy use but not light either. On monday it was down to 14% after 13 hours with a simliar usage profile.

Might try some other roms but so far very pleased :)

good stuff, might try that myself, quite interested in bln but ive not tried it yet.

I think realistically most of the battery problems have probably already been fixed now. most roms seem pretty similar in battery life - im generally getting around 1& 1/2 - 2 days between every charge on lite'ning 5.0 but this is with pretty average use - couple of calls, messages and a video or two ect. I dont think anything is going to change the way the phone is capable of completely decimating the battery in a few hours if you are playing a game or hammering the wifi :p

oh well that changes everything....:o

Well it confirms its not a test rom, that may only be for testing specific changes and that Samsung are happy its well rounded enough for general use as they've released it.....

Do you want Samsung to come round and tickle your balls whilst telling you it is all ok or something?

I don't know about the other roms as I've not tried them but compared to the stock samsung rom the difference is immense. The phone has now been on for just shy of 24hrs and is showing 53% charge left. The original rom if I'd left the phone on overnight would have been dead. The battery life was one of my biggest gripes with the phone and the custom roms seem to resolve that.

thanks - I have the CWM thing in my settings from flashing to Lightning 5.0
have you got the latest zip file link I maybe being blind and cant see it

do you think villain is better than lightning - if its better bettery Im ready to take the plunge? t\

Hey guys, just a quick question:

I've already rooted my SGS2 and I'm about to install Litening V5.0 onto it. Am I right in thinking that it will wipe all data? If this is so, can I backup everything with Titanium before I flash the ROM and simply restore it afterwards?

Just installed Litening 5 which was my first custom rom. Very happy with it and it didnt wipe anything. Actually for some reason i had to reinstall iplayer. Thanks for the above recommendation.
