Arsene Wenger has said that Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri will not be in the squad for Saturday's game against Newcastle.

Wenger quotes

I expect nobody to leave the club. (!) At the moment there is no news. What we want today is to focus on the players who can help.

Cesc is not injured, he's not match fit. I don't want to go any deeper than that.

At the moment we have too big a squad. We are not in a position where we are short of players.

DM if you are going to **** of players be consistent. Eboue and Bendtner haven't been any more consistent than any other arsenal player. You do exactly the same thing with your favourite players, as Wenger does with his favourites. Except he trains with the players and you look at stats and edited tv. Who is in a better position to say who would be best to start?

Fabregas' on off transfer is the example you should be following on how hard it is to sign a player. This situation doesn't just happen for the big players, it will happen with every good player. I am frustrated by the lack of signings but that does not mean Wenger has lost the plot or is a bad manager.

Not the ideal way to start the season but it certainly isn't the end of the world. Chill pill time and enjoy the football tomorrow. I know I will.

Or another way of putting it - are the stories "delayed" on purpose (just to fill column inches) and Utd pulled the plug even before the US tour - as some speculated - or were there really further talks in the last two days.......either way it doesnt look like Utd are going to get the "headline" signing people were hoping for / dreaming about.....but at least there are Fergie 's Fledglings Mk II to discuss instead

Nah, here's my take on the events;

We tried to get him signed before the USA tour, couldn't agree a deal hence Fergie coming out with the non-conclusive quotes such as there's no real interest and Gill's all deals are dead but that could change when we get back to Carrington

We get back to Carrington and talks resume and again we fail to agree a deal hence the unofficial statement leaked to the press last night.

Who knows if this is the deal dead once and for all or simply the club's message to Sneijder to drop his wage demands or the deal he is clearly longing for is off.

I suspect we'll know a lot more following Fergie's press conference at 12pm, if he refused to talk about it then there's still something happening. If he finally gives a conclusive answer on it then we can get on with looking forward to seeing what Anderson and Cleverley can do this season.

have read this morning that Robbie Keane could be on his way to Wolves on loan, no idea if short term or long term, but to cover for Doyle who is injured.

Hitzlsperger also to sign shortly on a free?

I'd imagine McCarthy is just worried that he hasn't bought any Irish players yet this summer.

I think he has to keep the quota up or Roy Keane will come round to his house and set the dogs on him.

I'm sure we will see the usual ex sunderland or irish player joining before the end of august!

It works both ways, he doesnt like selling them either, otherwise Keogh would have gone away a long time ago!

Yup probably would have, I think he'll be awesome at Wolves though, they're gonna be my second team this season.

I'd imagine they'll be your first team if Wenger doesn't spend the Csec/Nasri money and you crash out of the Champions League to Udinese :p

:D

Roy Keane, second only to Guinness for exporting Irish product overseas. :p

Apparently Leicester want him too

Pretty much breaking the champ if that happens (unless we get him but that just won't happen)
