10 Explanations for the riots
Interesting article on the possible underlying cause of the riots. I agree with 9/10 of them, the one I don't agree is the new social networking technology.
I'm amazed at the early onset dementia within the Labour party, it's like they cannot remember who was in charge for pretty much all these kids lives, who educated these kids, who made worse the dependency culture through ill thought out spending plans and so on... Not to mention who caused the public spending crisis by continually spending more than they brought in throughout the boom.

Kids Company charity founder Camila Batmanghelidjh blamed a society in which the "established community is perceived to provide nothing... It's not one occasional attack on dignity, it's a repeated humiliation, being continuously dispossessed in a society rich with possession".

Social exclusion always gets thrown up but how do you counter that with a section of society that doesn’t want to be included. It’s the old lead a horse to water etc. Countless money has been thrown at preventing social exclusion in all corners of the world (the projects of America for example) and its shown time and time again to simply not work well enough.
Its simply not an excuse
As you did a drunkenmaster style post I didn't bother reading it all.
America is perhaps the worst example as it's the country with the worst inequality. Norway and Sweden are perhaps better examples of countries where the state nurtures cohesive inclusion in society. How do they do this? Low levels of immigration and a generous welfare state - note: not benefit handouts but things like free childcare for working parents. In this country all we do is vilify single mothers on benefits, but how are they supposed to get jobs and off benefits if the sort of jobs they can get don't pay enough to be able to afford child care?
No-one is seeking to excuse the rioting, punishing the rioters harshly is entirely justified but it's only treating the symptoms of a sick society - it does nothing to address the underlying causes. Until we understand better these underlying causes and formulate a plan to correct them, our society will continue to suffer.
There's a danger of looking at Camilla Batmanjobi and seeing a large white woman with a whacky foreign name, wearing whacky foreign cloths and thinking that she's one of these so-called woolly left-wing liberals who are perceived to be to blame for declining standards in the UK. When you actually look at the work Kids Company, her charity, does you realise she is well placed to know what is going on with the sort of kids who were involved in the rioting. I think she's been very clear that there's no excuse for the violence.
Yet, large numbers of people in work and a decent living have been getting locked up, even a millionaires daughter was done for stealing £5k of goods. The point is, the only thing stopping a complete breakdown in society is the rule of law as large numbers of the population just lack proper morals and decency. Not really, we have "bred" some monster who think all should be handed to them. Human desire, if not properly educated, grows exponentially, these kids want it all, just like that, without effort put into it or reflecting if they really need all that stuff.

The reason was because they were mindless thugs who are completely self centred and full of greed. Morally corrupt individuals who cant see beyond their next action or if they can, don’t care anyway. For me, that’s the reason for the riots and nothing more.
How they got to be like that is worth finding out though.

So a political party are responsible for the way the way people are brought up? That is the parent(s) responsibility.
What was it you said in another thread about people trying to make cheap political points? Forgotten?
Maybe early onset dementia![]()
M25 was fine yesterday and it should be no different today.

Police posting messages on Twitter is one thing, but do feel free to post again when you've actually arrested "@missgucci" or taken some sort of actual action.
It didn't stop the usual people jumping to conclusions at the outset that they were all black, unemployed chavs who had never worked a day in their lives and used all their benefits on drinking and smoking while popping out reams of children.
I thought maybe the Norway incident would have taught them to be a little less certain with their assumptions until facts are known, but no, they don't learn.
