Riots in Tottenham, London! (NO RACIST COMMENTS)

If the coalition cuts can be blamed, then Labour's behaviour can certainly be blamed, considering they were in power for the duration of many of the rioters lives or educations ;)

Our welfare state has failed, and the failure was accelerated by the increasing of the benefit trap and bad policies such as surestart, EMA and the continual dumbing down of our education system.

The welfare state has failed? No, it is the allocation of that welfare, plus the inadequate and inefficient reforms of the education system which have failed. You are throwing the baby with the water.

That was the most angering moment on question time last night, when that chap was pointing out to Prescott that he was in no position to criticise, and then that woman in front of him said "Funny how all riots are under Conservative power."

I think I literally blew steam out of my ears.

Is it the education system that's the problem, or is it that kids are being bred who are incapable of being educated properly due to underdeveloped brains?

Posted this a while ago, it's a very interesting read with lots of scientific evidence, particularly Chapter 2, and it certainly explains a lot of the behaviours of the "problem kids" I went to school with (all of whom came from poor families on council estates).

She has a good point though and it shut up the guy behind her :p

So they are then forced into a life of crime and will cause more trouble than they did before.

YES, LETS DO IT!

A better plan is this.

1) All citizens of the uk with a passport are allowed to travel at will in the eu.

2) under current EU law all EU immigrants must be paid the same level of benefits they are entitled to in their country of origin.

So the current level of benefits you get here are competitively a lot of money in some where like Poland, so give them all a pass port and £1000 to move to Poland etc and then repossess all their property.

They can then live it up in Poland better off than they were here and we have nothing to do with them.

job done :p

this ^ i like

lol cant do right from wrong

maybe ship them out somewhere really horrible

Aye, it's a tough one. If you look beneath the immediate lynch mob mentality, I think most people just want them out of the way and occupied so they don't cause any more bother. In fact what everyone really wants is for these people to be contributing to society. So surely the best thing would be to get these people doing so.

"Banishing" them to a life of poverty will only add fuel to their disliking of "the system".

In short: Rehabilitation, not segregation/punishment is needed. :)

One does not follow the other. Any political party may be in power but trying to blame them(either colour) for the decisions of individuals about education is a poor arguement. There are too many factors involved. As for being in power when they were alive. That is an empty arguement.

Our welfare state has failed

Broad sweeping generalisation that has little merit.

bad policies such as surestart, EMA and the continual dumbing down of our education system.

A ragbag brought together. EMA was just another political tool to get the numbers of youth unemployed down. All political partys do this. I have seen numerous during my lifetime.

The education system always changes, the older rote learning has given way to other methods. Some of our education has been dumbed down but this was mainly due to politician's actions - league tables, continual initiatives.

Surestart, from what I understand it to be - parenting classes, health and pre-school classes is an excellent idea. What can be wrong in helping people to be better parents? The extended family of mothers and sisters helping and advising on parenting issues has largely gone. Something needs to be in it's place.

Then the Polish go on a rampage for us sending them a load of "one step up from a criminal"s? :p

If we built a gulag, we could have both. ;)
