Orange Monte Carlo

I've been in two different Orange stores this week to have a play around with the MC and it definitely seems like an improvement in build quality over the SF. The plastic on the SF was very cheaply coated and when chipped it was a different colour underneath. On the MC, although the plastic is just bog standard glossy black, it isn't coated and therefore shouldn't peel and shouldn't be as noticeable if chipped. The screen also felt ok, although I've never had a problem with a chipped/scratched screen before on any phone that I've owned.

It didn't feel particularly sluggish at all and I'd wager that most people would never notice the difference in performance over higher end phones. The screen is excellent and for those of us looking for a bigger screen for web browsing, I think the benefits far outweigh the slower performance compared to the top end phones.

Even if it is an improvement over the SF (and I should think so too!), you're better off getting a Galaxy S or something.

Had one since Saturday as an upgrade to the SF and so far liking it other than lack of space for extra apps due to the extra Orange stuff.

Main plus for me is that they seem to have sorted the low headphone volume issue from the SF. So far it's very responsive with no "lag" when scrolling through screens or apps and Angry Birds seemed to play well though will need to check later levels.

It's a budget phone, and it does a reasonable job of what you asked of it. No more, no less.

Bigging it up to be something far more than it is should be avoided IMO. I didn't like all the fuss with SF owners saying their device was better than the HTC Desire, etc... :o

Well it should be a budget phone, but you'd be better off getting a SGS1 on contract, which is a much better device.

It's a budget phone but not priced accordingly.

I haven't read the review yet.

But as said it is a budget mobile and for the orange customers who can get it for cheaper, it is great wee device.

Your getting a great 4.3" screen, with a pretty decent CPU/GPU, camera, sound etc. that is perfectly fine for normal use.

Obviously a £130-160 pound mobile is going to be absolute crap compared to the GS 2, which costs about £400 brand new.

Also most people obviously aren't going to get it on contract as that is a rip off and you can get much better mobiles on contract for same or a slightly bit more.

It is a great option just to buy out right or people still on contract that can't upgrade for another good few months (like me).

Also who has said that the SF it is as good as a desire? lol.

EDIT:

What they mean is probably what the mobile is like for overall speed/smoothness (obviously once rooted and custom ROM on and all), what it is capable of doing that they need.

E.g. for my samsung spica:

Even though the screen and everything else about the incredible S is much better than the spica, but when it comes to actual usability/speed/smoothness etc. they are both just as good as each other, obviously the more demanding stuff like games will be much better on the incredible S etc.

There were some people (not so much on here) back in the day that believed the SF was pretty much as good as a Desire and defended it to death. Obviously I explained why they were delusional but they didn't listen :p

Just noticed the Acer Liquid Metal is available for £149.99 sim free now as well which destroys this phone in every way apart from the screen size.

In fact I might be tempted by one of the Liquid's myself..
