I'm still wondering whether we'll make a cheeky bid for Nasri, I have a feeling Man City wont want him.

Mancini has all but confirmed City are in for Nasri, I'm somewhat surprised we haven't made more effort to bring him to OT unless from early enquiries it was clear he was only interested in going to City

I also wonder whether or not Cleverley got the nod today to see how he can handle himself before the window closes and we lose the chance to maybe lighten our stance on Sneijder's wage demands

Why was he worth more last season!? As a midfielder he hasn't hit his peak yet, arguably he's more experienced this season so worth more.

2009–10 27 league games 15 goals 15 assists
2010–11 25 league games 3 goals 14 assists

He didn't have anything like the same return last season.

There have been some reports on Twitter from semi-reputable people that Sneijder really wants to join and is prepared to slacken his wage demands a little bit. I'm going to assume that is BS but IF true, and Fergie thinks Cleverley could do with another season or two, we may go for him. You never know.

I'm being mindlessly optimistic but there we go :p

Does anyone actually know what Barca had bid until this week? The stories coming from Arsenal suggested the difference in price was considerably more than a 'few million'

And they could have spent it before then too. The money has always been there to spend with or without the Cesc funds. It's just Wenger either hasn't found the right player, or more likely doesn't want to spend it

Injuries, getting a little bit older etc etc. I'm sure Barca can find excuses and they probably have regarding how much he should cost. Barca are in such a unique position because they KNOW Fab only wants to go to them and he only wants to go there. It was just a matter of time.

I reckon they bid 35.

I don't think the money has always been there...i'm quite confused how/why Wenger has spent £25m or so on ANOTHER 2 wingers (Chamb/Forehead guy)...i dunno, perhaps i'm reading too many of DM's posts. :p

This season is the deciding one for Wenger i feel.

Thats on top of the fact that the last season has seen a recurring injury which puts marginally into doubt his fitness in the future, the previous season he broke his leg, came back absurdly quickly, and got the assist to win the World Cup. He was epic, winning stuff, scoring, assisting, this season he's been sporadic due to the injury , year less on his contract, and Barca simply have less money.

As said, the negotiating could have started any time, Wenger needed to publically name his price and Barca would have matched it much more quickly, all this papers think Arsenal want closer to 40mil, just state that, if they match it, they'd do it quicker, if not, tell Fabregas he's staying, this haggling is worthless.

The thing is though, there was nothing stopping us signing his replacement 2 months ago, and selling Cesc today, the difference is the timing.

How good was Young today, won them the game, assist and a kinda goal, he created both basically. Would Young have been as good if he joined the Utd squad yesterday?

Utd showed their intentions in day one of the transfer window, hard agressive, didn't massively overpay for anyone despite going early, got WHO THEY WANTED, not who was left on the last day of August when people are desparate.

Wengers a complete ******, I don't even care, I don't trust he'll buy the right players, because he hasn't for years. When our attack was awesome and our defence was crumbling, he bought Arshavin, when are defence is still a problem, he sells a striker, loans a striker, and buys 3 strikers............

We've needed a DM since the day Gilberto left, and we still don't have one.

The board are weak idiots, should have fired Wenger, appointed someone at the latest when the English transfer window opened and have had most of our deals sorted early.

Look how many deals Utd have gotten done, De Gae, Young, Jones, Brown, O'shea, Obertan. Arsenal have been trying to wrap up Bendtner, Eboue, Cesc for months on end and none of those three have actually gone yet and the seasons already started.

Nasri should have been sorted, CLichy got done pretty quickly, surprisingly quickly, replacements for all 5 should have been bought, and from early indications a DAMN site better than Gervinho, who for 12mil, its very early days but yesterdays performance was gash even ignoring the red card.

How much is the extra 10mil we've got from the Cesc deal really worth, other than screwing a player out of 5 mil himself, a guy whose made us 20+ times than since he's been at Arsenal. We've already dropped points, we bought Gervinho on the cheap rather than buying maybe a more expensive and better player, if we screw up the Udinese game, which if we play like that, we will, thats 20-30mil lost this season alone.

All to wring an extra 10mil out of the Cesc deal, will it be worth it when due to lack of replacements we lose 20mil of income from the champs league.......... really?

Yeah I've just read that

From what I've seen and read he certainly seems to be very keen on coming to the point where maybe he's thought it would be a forgone conclusion that it will happen sooner or later.... looks like he'll need to change his wage demands if he wants it to go through though

It's going to be what a week when they get a thumping on Tuesday. :D

Draw against Newcastle
Lose Nasri + Cesc (and maybe Bendtner and eboue)
...and then fail to qualify for the Champions League!

What a terrible week this could turn out to be.

If we don't finish in the top4 this season we are royally ****ed! This really is the most important season for us under wenger. I have no idea how he can stay if we win nothing and don't make the top 4!

It's an Italian radio station that's reporting it, and it seems to be gathering momentum but as I said, it's Twitter at the end of the day and it's mostly rubbish :p

They're saying Gill is going to sort it all out tomorrow.

I'm living in hope though (still)! :D

We all knew it was coming, but now that it has... well it hurts pretty bad. The vast majority of our play went through him, he was an assist machine... but we'll just have to go on without him now. No confidence the money will get used wisely, no confidence the team won't have a hangover now, no confidence in Wenger any more for dragging this out past the league starting.

Always thought Anderson and Nani were both around £18m each

It came out in Porto's accounts the other year that Anderson cost a guaranteed €30m. Not sure whether there were any further add-ons on top of that though.
In 2007, €30 million was about £20~million wasn't it?

Give or take. I remember €30m equating to £20.2m when we signed Torres the same summer.

Depending on how the deal was structured (ie if Utd spread the €30m over a few years) he could have cost a fair bit more than £20m as since then the euro has gained on the pound.

Is there anything official regarding the fee for Fabregas? The Telegraph are reporting €34m guaranteed with a further €6m depending on Barca winning 2 La Liga's and a CL. Give or take, £30m rising to £35m.

edit: And Tim Payton is still saying Fabregas will get his loyalty payment, so make that £26m rising to £31m :o

Don't forget we'll probably then lose to Liverpool and get pasted by United. :)
