Personally speaking at this moment in time I'm refraining from putting untested kids (Cleverley/Pogba) in there as lets face it it's the same as Liverpool fans suggesting a midfield with Spearing could do okay against Barca :o :p

Wouldn't do any worse then 98% of other teams midfielders (ie: be completely anon and out played) and at least he could say "I'm young and learning!" ;)

it can't do any worse as far as im concerned, but maybe i'm one who prefers to atleast attack a team instead of playing michael carrick, who quite frankly has been dire for 2 seasons. So i'd take pogba or cleverly any day over him and giggs who's legs clearly couldn't handle iniesta and xavi, no offense to the guy, he's just not got that ability anymore. especially after playing for a season. Even he knows that.

It is untested, and i can't say whether they would do well or not, but its a better gamble than trying a guy who hasn't had a good game for 2 seasons and a 35 year old to match up against the team that makes possession an art form.

Aquilani off on loan to Milan. Liverpool to pay £875k payoff to him and Milan have an option to buy for £5m next summer.

I think that might be up there with Jordan Henderson for the worst transfer deal of all time.

Shame he wasn't given a fair shot, he came back from a lengthy injury, got given a few games under an awful manager and then hung to dry.

He could have been brilliant for them this year alongside meireles yet they didn't even give it a chance.

then again why on earth was Meireles on the bench against Arsenal, he showed how good he was when he came on, and the last game of last season. Liverpool really make so many fishy nonsensical moves :\

2 things to consider imo

1) VP is a great player, no question.....but his injury record is awful, and imo especially now (that you are relying on his goals to keep you in contention), you desperately need a replacement /addition for when he is out - and imo it has to be someone reasonably well known as you cant afford to give them a season to acclimatise to the EPL either. Depending on the Nasri situation you might need a good box-to box player also in the middle of the park, with a bit of both flair and muscle (least important but over a long season it will become evident esp if Nasri does leave). Most important a towering CB

2) How much is a decent CL run worth, averaging over the last few years (of Arsenal's results) - £30 - 40m? Something like that I would guess incl TV rights with the away leg to come and such a narrow agg score I wouldnt be SO sure about progressing easily until its done. In one sense your EPL results SHOULD improve if you dont progress further in the CL - although the financial shortfall would be huge . Admittedly by most accounts your debts are nearly paid off but it would still be a horrendous shortfall for next season......

I pretty much agree with everything you say, would be nice to sign a towering proven defender, a creative midfielder and a goal scorer to play in front of VP - as we don't have the luxury of letting Gervinho settling in.

Another big snip

I understand where you are coming from on the money side of things and no I am not delusional, of course I want them to make it into the champs league, but IF we didn't make it we wouldn't be folding like other clubs because of the infrastructure in place - that to me is more important. We would easily be able to bounce back. That said, we'll be fine and make it this season.
Another thing with the new Uefa fairplay rules coming in next season - that might make things a bit more interesting (but I have a feeling Uefa won't have the balls to make any real impact).
The champ league is not he be all to make money from - of course it is a major chunk. The 208 flats they sold in 2009 made a profit of 7mil, so again not huge amounts in comparison to the dealings they have made this summer. If they sell Nasri they will be nearly 37mill profit - so plenty of cash to spare on some decent talent.

Firstly, I realise he's likely to be off to Milan and I was asking where you heard the details of the deal. And......it's came from some guy on twitter :o

If any deal is anything like the figures mentioned then it would be daylight robbery. I understand the thinking behind getting rid of anybody that doesn't want to be here (and I've said it myself) but that would be taking the ****.
...then again why on earth was Meireles on the bench against Arsenal...

Because he wasn't fit; he missed nearly all of pre-season and only played 20 minutes since returning from injury. And Aquilani never played under Hodgson.

Just :o at all of that tbh

Cleverley isnt untested though, 2ndly its not like Utd will be meeting Barca any time soon (ie there are plenty of "easy" games for Utd to assimilate Sneijder and Cleverley -fully- into a midfield trio, before any seriously hard games come along......and remember I specified (a few times) that it was a configuration for the future, not tomorrow (or even vs Arsenal / Chelsea)

Carrick could do it tomorrow, but it doesnt allow for that much growth in the team (from a midfield point of view)

Mata going to Chelsea (£23m). Another blow for Arsenal. Will be interesting to see wht team AVB creates... thats if they don't fire him at the end of a season or two.

He should make quite a difference as Chelsea are very stale in the creativity department. The move is now just subject to him passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.

Disagree, until there's a time like you said when Cleverley and or Pogba have played 5/6 months in the first team I find it extremely cringe worthy to be including either in any prospective teams that would face Barcelona. Cleverley thus far has a game and a half to his name for United and Pogba has yet to make his debut so both could quite easily fail on a Darron Gibson level

Milan actually have a extremely good squad , Ibrahimovic, Pato, Robhino, Silva, Mexes, Nesta, Taiwo, Van Bommel, Cassano, Seedorf, Boateng, Zambrotta, Antonini, Ambrosini, Flamini

if Liverpool don't realise if Milan want him, then he must be good.

Everyone who has watched Aquaman in pre-season should know he's got a lot of quality. Rumours of a POTENTIAL £5million fee after a seasons loan is crazy. He's contracted till 2014.
