my gf works for ea in origin and general support, this is the line they are feeding people spamming them with questions.

Shes also on the minecraft server with us whilst shes at work tostring :p (im shaarpy on minecraft ocukserver shes c4t4y4)

I was asking her at the time people were spamming the thread about getting discount codes for the game by abusing ea online chat staff :p

She said dunno what they are wasting their time for alpha peeps will get invites automatically.

Also when she asked her boss about discount codes his reply was lol "i dont care what they pay as long as they buy the game thats all that matters" ha ha

Catface works for EA? If i'd have known maybe would have got my discount code easier than having to ask like 6 people for one before they finally gave in :P

By the way, I didn't want the discount code for the beta, just for to make the game price a bit more realistic! the early beta access is just a bonus. cba to hope that the online stores would deliver on time so easier to download/preload the game from Origin for me.

A post on the Electronic Arts UK Forums outlines DICE's policy on dedicated servers for Battlefield 3, where Mikael Kalms explains that unlike Battlefield 2 and like Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the software to run servers will not be released to the public, as game servers will be operated by Ranked Server Providers, even though the option of running a server in unranked mode will be included. This is may impact players in countries with smaller player bases, as they state that they do not plan on making local servers available everywhere: "We try to strike a balance where there are game servers available across the globe, while still keeping the number of RSPs at a level where we can offer reasonable support to each individual company. Since we prefer to work with larger hosting companies, and we focus on countries where we have a larger player base, there will not be game servers available in every country on the planet." There's also word that ranked severs will require PunkBuster, and that DICE will also attempt to make the game work properly with third-party anti-cheating organizations PBBans, GGC-Stream, and PunksBusted, though these are not officially supported. The post also explains the difference between ranked and unranked servers, and offers some details on the administrator interface. As for where servers will be located, they say: "The list of RSPs which will run BF3 game servers at launch is not ready yet. Once it is, we will publilalalala [sic?] widely."

I'm not on my home PC at the moment so can you show me an example of when this happens on BC2? The BF3 engine is allot closer to BC2 than it is to BF3 so we might be stressing over nothing.

Happens in CoD4, tweaking the settings right down so the grass isn't rendered at all at distance.

Happens in BC2, the foilage is massively reduced so spotting someone running around in there isn't so hard (if I remember right, it's been a while since I have touched BC2).

Yeah I've seen it in BC2. I've recently switched down to Low to see if it resolves crash problems (which it doesn't) and it's hilarious seeing some cover in the distance, walking back and seeing the cover disappear, revealing a crouching bush :P

I'm still using a GTX295. Up until this point, I've never felt the need to upgrade as it seems to handle everything just fine. I think with BF3 though I'm going to want to get in on the DX11 action and will therefore need to upgrade. I'm going to try to hold out until the next gen in 2012 though so just hoping the 295 can cope on DX10 mid-high settings in high resolution.

She does indeed mate, from logitech to EA from free peripherals to free games for life! :)

Only down side is they are free for her account :( sigh.

Thing is they could just be spouting bs to people about the alphas but i can only go by what she says and this is what they are being told by people in work so im guessing its accurate. The only real revelation there is to do with alpha accounts becoming beta accounts without having to sign up again. wont take too long to see if thats true.

Whats the difference between running it in DX10 and DX11 then?

Is this where the graphics options could give advantages? I mean can I run it in DX10 even though my cards are newer? Do I have to uninstall the drivers or something like that?

This is what winds me up about PC games, having to worry about can I run it, what settings can I use etc I thought lashing out on this machine would take all that away.

OT : Thought i'd give battlefield heroes a try, what a bag of crap was the game made for kids?. Should've expected as much from the trailers lol

I thought the same when I first played it. I actually quite got into it eventually, but the whole thing about need to pay money to get better weapons as stuff (I know you don't HAVE to, but it helps) really put me off.

Yeh some bloke was going " ANYONE WANT 50 IN GAME POINTS ", " SELLING BETTER ARMOUR " e.t.c

Uninstalled, 1hr worth of play lol

Why does it wind you up?

You will have no problem playing the game what-so-ever, the only issue you seem to have there is that you want (for some reason) to downgrade your card's to DX10?

Its this thread, so many people saying different things - DX10 is better, DX11 is buggy, 580s wont cope they stutter all the time, the i7 is not for gaming... BF3 is a RAM hog anything less than 16GB is silly. SSDs dont help load times, graphics etc
