Lenovo x121e netbook

Hi guys, I now have the X121e, but I have an issue with it. I'm not sure if my machine is an isolated incident, so I want to ask you guys.

My issue is in relation to the keyboard. I think I have a problem around the 'S' key.

When I type on the keyboard, it's loud, but the noise the keys make on the left hand side around the 'S' key are different to those on the rest of the keyboard. It's a bit hard to describe in words but I would say that the keys on most of the keyboard make the noise I expect, a loud 'click' noise.

However, around the 'S' key, notably: Q, W, E, A, S, D, Z, X, C, the noise is more like a loud 'clack' noise. It sounds like perhaps something is hitting bare metal, or maybe there's a slight bit of vibration at the moment the key is depressed. So if I'm normally typing, instead of consistent tapping noises, I get a mix of different noises depending on which parts of the keyboard I am typing on.

Overall, there's little flex in the keyboard. However, I have also noted that around the S key, it flexes slightly more (though I still would say it's not major flex).

Does anyone also have a similar issue, or am I an isolated incident, and therefore I should go and get Lenovo to replace the keyboard? As an additional note, I have a US English keyboard, which is probably different to what you guys have, but I think it should be more or less the same except around the 'Enter' key.

Thanks for any help.

I just discovered this laptop when looking for macbook air alternatives. It looks good, are people happy with theirs?

I see that on youtube people are running games like team fortress 2 on the AMD version. Is it better for gaming than the Intel version?

Is the thinkpad b/g/n option fine or shall I take the upgraded one?

Also has anyone got any photos of a midnight red one?

Whilst mine was working it seemed to cope well with gaming, surprising considering the low power CPU, might have even ran quicker if I had got the chance to pop my 8Gb in.

Benchmarks mostly put it ahead of the i3 unless the game is CPU intensive but it doesn't really make it a games laptop unless you are willing to make a few sacrifices, e.g. lower image quality settings and perhaps slightly lower resolution than native.

By the way thanks for your help everyone, unfortunately I didnt end up getting an x121e - I managed to get an £800 discount on an x220 and I really couldnt turn down the offer.

The x121e is still a lovely bit of kit going by my fiddling in the shop and the sheer mass of people I have been talking to about it

I paid via paypal and got that confirmation through, but am yet to receive the order confimation from Lenovo, its been almost 2 hours - is that normal?

Yes I had my quidco tracking e-mail before my lenovo order confirmation (which took about 24 hours).

Hey guys, I have created an account to post in here as I'm heavily considering getting this model next month (student loan).

I am looking at the E-350 model as I will be using the netbook for mainly Office programs but also some gaming on slow days or between lectures/ labs. From some researching it seems that the people complaning about the noise of the fan or temps are mainly using the i3 (forgive me if I'm wrong). I was wondering if it was mainly limited to the i3 model or affected the E-350 model too, as when I use it in lectures I wouldn't be keen on having a loud system when only using Office etc.

First time posting but used the forum a few times in the past and I find the community to be very helpful, most recently with a thread on using the 560 Ti with a Q6600.

I didn't get the 6 cell because I really wouldn't need 9 hours between charges. I can always buy one later anyway.

The i3 processors in that comparison are not as new as the ones in the x121e which are sandy bridge. From the benchmarks I saw the i3 should perform better.

The Intel seems to be around 50% faster in benchmarks. Intel is #239, AMD is #322.

Graphics - Intel #209, AMD #259.

I know benchmarks aren't everything but just thought I'd post my findings.

+1

2nd Generation Core GPU is significantly faster than 1st gen so don't get put off by that initial comparison.

I an play FIFA 11 on mine ;)

Thing to note on the notebook check website is that most of the reviews of the HD graphics have significantly higher CPU than the ULV, unfortunately the game benchmarks aren't consistent across all devices either.

Only racedriver and starcraft have been run on the 1.3Ghz i3, starcraft is 5-10% quicker than e350 but then its a cpu intensive game whereas something that requires a good gpu over cpu will highlight the strengths of the radeon chip, Dirt2 for example is 18-19fps for e350, but its same for 2.2Ghz core SB i3 with HD3000.

Still niether are really gamer chips at this level.

I thought the i3-sandy bridge only has HD2000 GPU?

Well thats the case for the i3-2100 sandybridge CPU for computers, i have no idea about it for laptops/notebooks.

All laptop CPUs have the HD3000. Only the 2500k & 2600k desktop CPUs have the HD3000. The ULV in the X121e has the HD3000, but the frequency is a few hundred MHz lower. However, it "Turbos" up to near standard CPU level.

Arghh I am so annoyed with myself right now, I had no idea Quidco had cashback with Lenovo. WHY DON'T I CHECK THESE THINGS BEFORE BUYING!!!!!!!

I guess I'll get over it. I've had my x121e for 2 weeks now and love it. Had a Samsung Q320 before this and despite the lower cpu power on this I haven't noticed any performance difference. If anything, since I've put my OCZ Limited Edition 50GB in there it's felt faster. It also feels better made than the Samsung, bar the touchpad which is useless. I agree with the previous comments about the touchpad and I will try those settings posted above when I'm next on the laptop. This hasn't been such an issue for me as I've gotten used to, and now much prefer, using the nipple.

Also, I'm loving the fingerprint reader! Has anybody else registered each one of their fingers so you have a choice of 10 different fingers to log on with each time? No? Just me :o

Am tempted to go for the AMD version for something to chuck in the car.

I don't suppose anyone has attempted to fire up World Of Tanks on it?

Got an X121e the other day - anyone got any suggestions for WiFi whitelisting? It wont boot with a non-Lenovo WiFi card :(
