****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Giving Batista a go, it's much quicker than stock but with all the nice bits. Some odd graphics glitches, especially when typing this forum post, lots of flickering...

I'd got used to restoring apps through my google account so hadn't bothered with titanium backup... Oops!

I see there is a revamped S2 out that's hitting US and Canada shores either in September or October, possibly called 'The Hercules'. Same spec but it has a 4.5" screen. The physical phone has had a little touchup as well, removing the button and smoothing out the edges of the device. IMO I prefer the look of this.

Does anyone have any further information regarding this, specifically whether or not the uk will see a release?

Batista is quite nice, but it has issues with photo display. The gallery is fine (as is the browser) but 4rd party apps show a lot of crosshatch banding (Quickpic, JustPictures, FlickFolio) which is bit of a shame.

Also, does anyone know what situation would cause a CWM backup to be deleted? I restored my cm7 setup back so I could backup the apps with Titanium, restored my Batista backup, then when I thought I would flash back to cm7 my original backup had gone! :(

Maybe we get the Celox instead?

I tweeted Samsung UK about the Hercules and they said they had no info regarding it coming to the UK :(

Definitely the look, a cross between the SGSII (size) and Nexus S (rounded and shiny) are a winner.

Thanks, I was looking at trying the Batista rom first so had a search over at xda, assume I need to to this first http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 then crack on with the rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162715 ?

This was so much easier on my San Fran :p

Pretty much:

  1. Go into download mode
  2. Flash unsecure CF-Root Kernel
  3. (Optional, if you want to retain your current apps and data) Install Titanium Backup & backup with it
  4. Boot into recovery
  5. Nandroid Backup (Important)
  6. Wipe/factory reset, advanced, wipe dalvik cache
  7. Install ROM via choosing zip
  8. Restore Titanium Backup

No, definitely not. Lite'ning 6.1 isn't good for battery, but that sounds rather extreme.

What does battery use say? Also, install BetterBatteryStats and check what's high in the wakelock stats.

Ah, I put my phone back on charge now so I guess it'd mess the stats up. Would it be worth doing a full battery reset/discharge? Never done one before and I've had various roms on the phone?

Cheers

I would do a little investigation first. You might find a rogue app or widget, remove that then calibrate -

http://hemorrdroids.net/battery-calibration/

Look for apps that monitor or update anything. Even worse, widgets that monitor or update.

I'll give you some examples of things I've found in the past -

1) An app that monitors your data usage
2) A widget that shows how long your battery will last
3) Google Latitude

1 and 2 I decided I really didn't need, so I removed them. Latitude I do use, but I switched to Latify, which I will review on Hemorrdroids in the next couple of days :)

Thanks for the reply - How do I actually go about looking at apps that monitor or update? I only really have games installed.

Cheers

You're probably fine in that respect then. Just have a look through installed apps, see if you have any that sound like they monitor something in some way.

Checking the battery stats is a more reliable way, something showing high on wakelock will tell you it's using your phone when you would perhaps want it to be sleeping.

On a different matter, does anyone else have a problem with their screen going off too quick? Mine seems to turn off after 20 seconds, seemingly regardless of what I set the timer to be, 30 seconds or a minute. It's being doing this for 2 different ROM's now. :(

Can someone advise as to whether you can get screen burn with this type of screen? I've set my phone to keep the screen on when its in its cradle and obviously dont want any nasty side effects.

You can find links to all the official ROM's at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 at a few lines down at the top of the first page there is a link to carrier branded firmware, which include Vodafone etc for the UK.

Hope this helps! :)

When I try to install the transparent accuweather widget from that batista ROM it says cannot install.

Anyone know how to install apk files like this that seem to need to overwrite a system file like the stock accuweather app?
