Now spend £13-16m on Cahill Wenger

Seriously no, for a player in the last year of a contract that is insane. Spend it in other areas and pick him up in January for peanuts. He really won't make that much of a difference if as people keep saying Arsenal need 5 or 6 players.

Just give Everton this imaginary 80 million and take Arteta, Baines and Jageilka :p

The only Cahill Arsenal need is Tim Cahill. Back up your weak forwards, biggest aerial threat in the league despite being 3 foot tall and puts himself about.

£20 million please :D

Iv been thinking it for years, that Cahill is good, and still cant belive now top team has poached him yet!

It seems arsenal fans dont care who they bring in - as long as they bring in someone!!

I just hope for their sake they hit the ground running, because they will have to, or else !

He's barely a left back though..more of a left midfielder that isn't good enough at that for Brazil, so is pushed back. Decent enough buy though!

Jones is probably more of a captain candidate, more so than Smalling. Smalling will be in the England team for a long time, though.

I know you didn't mean as captain. If you were talking about a year or 2 down the line then possibly but in the short-term I suspect that Cahill will be ahead of Smalling in the England pecking order.

Out of interest which of your young ones at the back are English? I've thought they've looked pretty good.

How come you don't rate Smalling?

Where did I say that I don't rate Smalling?

Kelly, Robinson and Flanagan are all English.

Thought you meant that you could see Jones getting in the England side but didn't think Smalling would.

What do you think of them both? and for that fact how you'd manage the England defence? That's open to others too.

I actually wouldn't mind Benayoun, he'd add some depth at least. I'd love us to sign Alex as well, I really rate him and he hits a mean free kick too! Cahill would be good but only at the right price. We need to add a central midfielder as well.

That's what I was saying, it doesn't mean I don't rate Smalling though.

Smalling looks like he's going to be a very good CB but so does Cahill and he's more the finished article than Smalling is. Jones looks like he's going to be an exceptional CB though. Positionally he's a bit all over the place right now but he's going to be class.

edit: Oh and Chelsea are reportedly in for Meireles. The Telegraph are reporting that we've rejected an £8m + Benayoun bid for him and that while we're open to selling him, we don't want to sell him to Chelsea (would demand more money than if he went abroad) and that we don't want Benayoun back.

Ohh I thought that at first then I thought it was about the captaincy

I'd tend to agree, I think Jones looks like a brilliant defender in the making and Cahill due to experience is just a better pick then Smalling who's got a bit to go before he's a first team England start. I'd argue that between those three and just the Liverpool defenders and maybe Richards from City (still don't rate him) England look pretty good in defence.

Would Liverpool really want Benayoun back though? I suppose he's a little different to Meireles though.
