You can't argue with the prices Wenger got the players for, its just a shame about the timing.

Currently he has bought a German first choice CB who is only a year older than the target Cahill, as well as the Brazillian left back.... for a combined cost of less than cahill would have cost... pretty smashing business!

You might want to see how they play before calling them great players. The thing with Cahill is, like Young, you know for 98% certain he's not leaving for La Liga or any other top league in the future, he's also got proven EPL experience unlike both of the other two.

Mertesacker might gel great in our defence, or might be terrible, he's notoriously slow and that might make him near useless in our league, he might be brilliant, we won't really know till he plays for us frankly. With Cahill the higher price also comes with a near certainty he will continue to play at the same level he has in the league already.

Hearing that he'll also be on 80k a week I'd imagine he will cost at least 1mil a year more than Cahill would, so at the end of four years I wouldn't imagine the price would be much different.

The last problem being, we we just sign a CB, LB and striker, we haven't scratched the surface of what we need, of course, being halfway there is a vast improvement on our current situation. Central midfield is our priority along with left back.

Haven't read any 100% confirmation that they've signed on the dotted line, but I'd take Mertesacker over Cahill any day. He's huge, he'll be good at organising the defence and he's a very experienced International who's also played quite a bit in the CL. Massive amounts of experience, he'll be good for us. No idea about the Brazilian but he must be better than what we already have.

One of our biggest issues is fullbacks constantly out of position and without Wilshire infront of the defence, useless cover infront of the defence. Hopefully a decent left back and a decent CB will shore up that problem dramatically, I've lost absolutely all hope of Sagna staying in position, but Jenkinson with a REAL defender alongside him commanding the defence telling him where to be, there could be a huge improvement..... still need a decent DM though.

Please, please sell Berbatov. I would rather have money than just watch Fergie treat him like ****.

I worry about selling him when it'd mean basically promoting youngsters to first-team football all season (we're barely into the season yet...) but it seems like Fergie no longer sees him as an option at all... :( I feel like he was just getting to his best with us but we've confined him to the scrap heap already.

Scott Parker handed in a transfer reject.

Yakubu has rejected a move to Blackburn... he's playing in our reserves for god sake, what's wrong with him?!

I would happily see the likes of Berba leave if it gaurenteeed the arrival of a player like Sneijder.......but as thats highly unliklely to happen, Utd might as well keep him.

Macheda will probably go out on loan, but Im really not sure about Diouf as there seems to be no interest at all in him (not that surprising by all accounts).

Defence looks good (even with the constant ? over Evans), but central midfield feels very light in experience...... and will psychologically feel 10* worse if OH does end up at a direct competitor)

Liam Ridgewell hands in transfer request at Birmingham.

lol what the hell is going on... it's not even last day of the window yet! :D :D

Indeed, he went out on loan last season didn't he? I'm really surprised at that move to be honest. Think it's not what he should be doing.

That's a huge problem and probably one of the main reasons why we concede so many stupid goals, RB and LB bombing ahead, overlapping the wingers and then not bothering to track back, or getting dispossessed and then not able to make the ground back up. Surely proper coaching would fix it but I think Mertesacker will make a huge difference to our organisation, I don't see too many people answering him back anyway. :p

Turn down big spending Roma wanted to come here

And it not as if we paying major wages these days. Think its the same reason why Cabaye came to us. Want to prove himself in a harder league

Aye think he spent 6 months out on loan last year after a falling out of favor with the Inter boss.
