***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

No problem, got the machine on now and once it's updated (ANOTHER one? Come ON Sony, at least give us something worthwhile occasionally) AND I've updated the game to the latest patch, I'll set them online :)

And fffffff, NASCAR. I managed to get the trophy for the NASCAR special events I'm pretty sure but I wouldn't want to do it again, and I gave up on the NASCAR event in Pro or whichever category it was in because that final race on Daytona is ridiculous.

Anyway, check my shared cars in the next 10-15 minutes or so and I should have them online.

edit: was a little delayed, done now though, put all three cars online so pick whichever you like :)

Ah thanks very much! Just finishing the final race in the Loeb Challenge and then I'll go take a look at your cars. It's the Daytona one which I was stuck on also, where you have to start at the back at beat the other 10 cars... I can't even stay in front of the first two that I overtake. The ridiculous thing is it won't let you turn the traction control off, so every corner it slows me down dramatically and all the other cars pull away.

I noticed that too, it forces skid recovery force on! it slows you down a lot during the banked corners :( think the best I've managed on the final NASCAR special event is 2nd or 3rd! special thanks to SRF there! :p

Yep, pretty sure you could turn T/C off originally but PD in their infinite wisdom patched it out so now it's locked on :|

Yeah, I Googled the race name to see if there was something really obvious that I was doing wrong, but it seems quite a lot of people beat it before the patch, no idea why they forced the TCS on it's hard as nails now, especially as I only have a control pad. :p

By the way I've sent you a friend request, you're on my other account but I don't use that one anymore so feel free to delete.

I'd be happy with a bronze just to get the trophy for finishing the NASCAR school. :p

Ah, gotcha, will boot the system again quickly and accept that so you can access the cars now :)

edit: done! Also, what's with your profile comment? Sounds like the way the Japanese practice their alphabet (a i u e o, ra ri ru re ro, etc) :3

Blimey! That new NASCAR seasonal is well easy!! I expected it to be way harder as a special item is up for grabs.

Yeah! Also it seemed like the cars handle much better than normal? I've used a NASCAR for that Extreme event and they handled like crap.

EDIT: Is there a way to save my settings for assists and controller sensitivity? I have to keep turning them off at the start of each race as they keep getting turned on. I've looked through the options and can't find any way of forcing these settings to save. Sorry if that's a stupid question by the way.

:p

Hmmm I don't have any help for you but I know what you mean about the error, I had to put my Steering Sensitivity on 3 for the NASCAR seasonal and now every time I am about to start ANY race it auto-switches it to 3. Well annoying!

EDIT: Have you tried turning it off on the event you turned it on on? I did it on the NASCAR seasonals and reset the steering sensitivity and now its fine!

Haven't tried that, but I will. :)

I really fancy giving this a try, but I'm generally naff at driving games (I either drive quite slow and don't crash and feel pleased with myself, right up until I see the other car times or I drive fast and crash and get annoyed) what's the learning curve like on this?

Do you *need* a wheel? as I've never used one and I'm still learning to drive :o

What does setting 3 do? less sensitive or more?

A wheel certainly helps but it's playable with the DS3 just fine. The learning curve is quite simple, you can do the license tests which will teach you how to drive properly. :p

3 is more responsive I think. When I was doing the Jeff Gordon School I put it down to -2 for smoother steering though. On the higher settings the TCS kept kicking in, but saying that I'm still stuck on Advanced 3 so...

Well I've pretty much not put it down since bringing it home tuther day. :o
Plodding on up to Level 12 the first day but then read in this thread about the Specials, I did the first Nascar one & placed 1st for One & a half Mill so did the next one as well to bump up the bank account. Things are sweet now with plenty of money & loads of cars.
As for the game itself the load times/screens are a drag but the racing, Handling & Gfxs are superb, I love how the cars feel & how you can actually feel the upgrades as & when you do them.
I'm well happy, 25 quid well spent & I'll get Hundreds of hours out of this game.
