I'm using a new ROM as of the middle of the night, I kind of woke up and felt like using another ROM, is this weird? :p

I'm using this:

It's as close to AOSP as it gets but retains all the Samsung stuff should you wish to install them one by one. I have just restored the Samsung Calendar, Dive, Messaging and some other tweaks like silent camera, Stagefright Codec, no boot sound etc via the Extras app the ROM ships with. It's also considerably smaller in size to other ROMs and very fast/smooth.

It's like Cyanogen, except everything is still hardware accelerated and you have a fully functioning HD camcorder with tweaks all over :p

Hmm, got a bit of a problem. At least 2 times now, my phone has sort of disconnected from O2. It says "emergency calls only" and won't make or receive calls. Restarting the phone fixes this.
Phone or provider issue? I missed 2 days worth of messages the first time it happened (was wondering why nobody had messaged me :P)

could be phone.

my first s2 would say "emergency calls only" always and won't make or receive calls. i tryed different sims, orange, o2, Vodafone , ect but nothing worked, so i sent it back and got a replacement which i've not had any issues with.
 
I don't think it would be antenna. If you have no signal it doesn't offer you to make emergency calls, you can't make any calls at all.

Sounds like either a faulty SIM or a radio ROM corruption of some kind, thinking you don't have a valid SIM.
 
guys quick one re: nandroid.

i want to update from kf3 to kh3. I can't use nandroid can I? as that IS the rom, yea?

I need something like titanium backup? but then i have to faf with restoring all my themes and icons etc?
 
on another note, anyone else think the samsung sms app is the best of the lot? I've tried them all now and keep going back to stock.

I agree but I can't seem to get my Samsung SMS app back. Does anyone have a link? I tried a few but ended up nuking the stock sms app of the Modaco ROM somehow so I ended up installing Go Sms Pro. Still I prefer how the Samsung app looked.
 
If anyone is on the fence abiut getting this , just look how good the HD video is on this thing.

This was taken at the belgian F1 race, Im far from good at settings or holding it still so most people could do better


best seen in 1080p full screen. You have to remember the second video the speed of the cars :D

Surprised the Mic didnt pop out lol, looked a quality spot on the track though with the big screen in in front as well.

i get this if I have a rubbish signal, as i do inside work. The 'Emergency calls' is, I believe your phone finding any networks signal and i think you can make emergency calls via any network.

it's also rubbish at picking up a signal again when i leave work some nights and requires a reboot to pick up my provider again. :(

What radio/modem are you using? I had a similar problem but it was fixed on KG3 and higher modems/radios :)

I have just trawled page by page through this thread to here (p43)!

We just got a galaxy s ii and I was looking for some views on what the decent apps are etc what stuff that samsung has preloaded should I discard etc

So far I have only been reading a lot of phone hype!

I notice there is a degree of duplication I seem to have two mail apps for example. I have assumed that the standard gmail app will be superior l- is that the case?

Any advice on the basics for this phone would be much appreciated (or link me to somewhere I can get that), not used an android handset before so very nee to this.

I've actually gone back to handcent since I typed that as I miss how snappy it was in comparison to stock. i've set it to the same colours as stock, disabled contact pictures etc, so it basically looks the same now.
