John Cleese: London no longer English

Poles are immigrants to the UK. Poland is an EU country, which means they have the right to emigrate to the UK i.e. are legal immigrants. Whether or not this is right is up for debate.

My mum was allowed to immigrate here 40 years ago, it's only just recently Poland officially joined the EU. She has never claimed any benefits, she started her life here doing the lowest paid jobs and slowly forged a living over here. As i'm first generation English i'm proud to be English, i still worry a bit about immigration and the unrest it can cause as i see it from both sides Let me tell you if we're talking about immigrants Poles are far from undesirable compared to other immigrant groups. Although you might not see it Poles have a admiration for us English, they are here to work and not scrounge benefits, they generally try to integrate with the natives, they will work god damn hard for little. Those reasons alone show you that they are honourable people that you have nothing to fear from :)

Well maybe these lazy i feel hard done by generation will get a wake up call and try to aspire to a hard work mentality instead of looking for someone else to blame. The vast majority of Polish immigrants are here only on a temporary basis anyway. Don't get me wrong i still believe the door shouldn't be wide open, there's got to be reasonable limits with foreign workers and immigration in general.

Take your rose tinted glasses off....

The problem is very much housing cost and lack of affordable housing for those that want to work who's going to work for min wage on a £200 take home when the cheapest rent for even one shoddy room in london is £100-£125 a week before everything else people need to understand especially about london that rent and council tax is very high one simply doesn't walk in to mordor on a min wage job.

They should kick out all these people that get their rent paid for them by housing benefit on their own place and make them share and let the people that want to work have the low rent accomodation.

Employers really expect too much from people they want it all for min wage with bad conditions (normally they retain ability to lay you off anytime they like) in a back breaking job just isn't going to attract that many people but to someone paying no rent or sharing with loads of people min wage is still an attractive proposition.

And I don't agree that they work harder from my expereience most are a lazy clueless bunch that like to avoid pulling their weight at work.
I am looking for work at the moment and you are damn right I turn my nose up at minimum wage I will work for a decent living wage certainly looking for a take home of £250 a week is that too much to ask ? I don't think so at all it's beneficial to the employer as decently paid staff are happier and more motivated.

Too many people want something for the minimum amount of effort...
You must be talking about today employers ..........

Today employers want people to work for them for nothing..

My last employer pays his 14 latvia workers £3.75 an hour for there first year
and £4.25 an hour if the return for any following years

I do see where John is coming from with his comments.

I live in North London and the area around Finsbury Park is very diverse. When you walk down the street and see Cafe Bars full of Islamic Men... because Women aren't allowed and the majority of people aren't even speaking English, it does make you seriously think about how different this is to how England once was.

For reference, I also spent four years living in Bradford and I actually found that to be a different experience to London. Yes there were the riots there, largely due to segregation and public spending on ethnic groups, but to me it felt like multiculturalism was more integrated. The majority are British and have been for generations, so they are just like me and you and speak the language.

Where I am in North London, there are a much higher proportion of people who haven't been here for generations. Infact, the Police frequently are doing immigration raids on various businesses because there are many who come here and don't intend to leave. To me it feels that is where the difference lies, there are many people who just haven't integrated into society and are living in their own little country within our country and that's what makes it all a bit odd.

No issue with immigrants tbh. The polish and others work bloody hard to put food on the table for their families, while the youth culture of today just don't seem to care, it's too easy to get the paycheck from the job centre.

From those youtube clips (although it may not be unbiased) it just shows how unreliable the british have come to be. Walking out of restaurant... faking sickies etc, I know I wouldn't employ them. I'd rather have a polish person who is passionate about doing an excellent job and wanting to earn money.

I personally like mixing with asians / muslims etc on my day to day, nice to learn about different people and cultures, but I suppose I'm a bit more open minded.
You fail to grasp the reason why they are better workers on low wages i'd be highly motivated if my rent was £20 a week or free because my family are conning the state and getting housing benefit and have several houses or there's 10 of us in one house sharing the rent and we are raking it in and buying cheap housing back in poland. That video means nothing they clearly went out of their way to hand pick morons.

To clarify, this is absolutely not about any particular race or nationality, I'm not against immigration at all. I am against the sort of uncontrolled immigration we've had over the last 50 or so years and am worried about the effect it is having on the country and its citizens. I think over the last 5 years we've reached a crunch point, and with the recession and subsequent fragility in the economy things could get very messy very quickly unless we as a nation can get a grip of the situation.

And you are stereotyping a small set of Polish immigrants. I happen to know a lot of polish people who do not live in the circumstances you mention...

There's also british people who do massive house shares and rake in cash... will you hear about them? Most likely not.

You also appear to live just down the road from me :p, I work in morden.

Not this

I wasn't having a pop just expanding on your comment and showing my perspective. Actually we both share the same concerns man. If anyone is to blame is has to be the government, for letting this country go to pot.

That is your problem and no one else's, its up to you how you go about making yourself more employable for the wages you want. As most people do, you are quick to blame someone else for your own faults. I would never employ a blame shifter. As we can see no English person ever wants to do the low paid jobs. London rent and council tax is something Londoners have to deal with so get over it. Also buying less unnecessary luxury goods may help. I am sure if you spent less on computer gear and more on educating yourself things would work out for you.

Wtf, have you not seen all the posts about polish and other White Europeans over numerous threads.

Be sensible, and Weebull is correct. You cannot tell a Pole by just looking at him as they look like any other white Brit. You cannot tell which nation ANY white person is from as most could all pass for natives. Weebull is correct what he says about the blacks and other ethnics. That's what people see and respond to.
