Guys, help a fella out!

I am off on holiday next week and i can not remember the best way i to load movies and tv shows onto my iPhone / iPad

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

What is the best file format? Xvid? divx? MKV? MPEG4?
What is the software i need to get them re-coded, if needed.
What do i need to recode too?

I need the idiots guide please!

Thanks

Easiest way is through iTunes. Any .mp4 or .m4v files work fine, but the video and audio formats must be H264 and AAC respectively.

If you're on a Mac and your films are kept in an MKV container then Subler or MKVtools work great and should only take a few minutes to remux them.

If you already have the files in DivX you can just download an app on your iPad such as VLC (which was free but may no longer be available) or CineXPlayer (fairly cheap) and copy stuff straight across.

Ill be using my PC, win 7, i do have a Mac Book Pro that i can use i suppose, but i only use this on Windows 7 too, plus its on the Bay at the mo so id rather not use it.

Weird.....I was going to create a thread just like this today!!

I've got lots of videos I'd like to put on my iPad as well, they are mostly in .avi format with a few as mpeg or mkv! What's the best way to do it?

I usually just use vlc when I watch them on the mac

I use the following two options:-

a) Convert with Handbrake (avi, mkv etc to m4v), drag files into iTunes and sync iPad.
b) VLC installed on iPad, within iTunes add files (avi, mkv) to VLC documents.

Normally follow the first option but the second is used if I need to throw something on last minute and don't have time to convert first.

LMAO Deku!

Thanks so much guys! ill be finding myself this Handbrake now.

I cant seem to find VLC in the appstore, only VLC Streamer.

I am using Handbrake now, what are the best settings for me to choose?
I have the preset ipad settings selected but i only have a 16gb iPad and i want to get the most on here as i can, so... i would like to have the smallest file sizes possible whilst maintaining a decent quailty (if poss)

Another vote for AVPlayer HD.. Just copy any (most) format on to your iPad and watch, no need to convert.. AVPlayer HD now also comes with a FTP client, so you can pull your movies down from your computer wirelessly.

I previously used Air Video to convert, then copy to iPad using iTunes, this worked fine aswell.. But not had to do this since getting AVPlayer HD. :)

I use the preset Apple TV setting and used it to convert the Bourne Trilogy - each film was about 920 meg.
