****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Can someone reply to this. :)

Thanks.

I personally went for the Talkmobile deal that has featured a few times now.

400 mins Any Network Anytime + 1000 Texts, 1GB Data, 30 quid a month, 99 GBP for the phone BUT only a 12 month contract, which is a big plus for me.
Very happy so far, no complaints about the service.

For me, the service is better than Orange. The data network speeds seem to be much better than Orange where I live (Cornwall).

So, I got he SII on Saturday, sim free unlocked for £370.

Rooting, flashing etc is easy than i remember from when i had my Magic and Nexus, much less buggering about than i remember. Odin is very handy.

I've been messing with it most of the weekend already installed Lite-ning ROM, which quite like, going to try Villian rom next.

Using my old sim from before my iphone, cant make calls as its not active but i am getting an adaptor today so i can drop my mico sim into it, when i'm happy i shall order a new one from Voda.

Will i need to set up ADB again do you think? Have formatted since i last used it so will need to set it back up...

Also, how do you get the new market? Does it just download automatically? I had it briefly, before i flashed a new ROM, Then it went back to the 'old' style. Is there something i need to do to get it back?

SpeedMod Kernel T39, impressive battery!

As you can see, my phone has woken up throughout the night to receive notifications, sync items etc but the screen has been mostly off so this indicates the kernel is working correctly for deep sleep and battery consumption. Only started checking stuff properly in the morning.

:D

I'm still running GingerMod 0.3.

ADB is not needed on the S2, everything can be done from recovery or Odin. Only advanced users who wish to customise scripts and so on would need ADB.

You can get the new Market by installing (via apk or flashable zip) the new market zip which can be found attached to quite a number of ROM threads where the dev has provided it. Or you can simply extract the apk from an existing ROM and install it overwriting the old Market.

The new style has to be installen manually right now as it's a leaked beta when google deem it suitable for release the old market will get replaced automatically.

Been using CM7 for the past day and its nicer than I first thought , my only complaint is video playback isn't great, a lot I try stutter and stop playing or tjr sound goes, in all a nice rom but not ready yet.

Thanks all. :)

DIABLO: It does? When i first used the stock ROM it was the old Market, then i changed at some point.

Either way, i'm still picking my ROM so for now i am constantly wiping and flashing. :)

Had a play with a few roms so far and all are nice for different reasons.

One thing i am trying to get working is a bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

I can get the keyboard paired and connected, and working, but not the mouse (well not at the same time)

Is this a hardware limitation or software / rom.

Had the same keyboard and mouse combo working on the atrix, so i know it can be done (atrix was on a custom 2.3.4 rom)

Video is absolutely perfect using moboplayer for me.

Just reverted back to Cognition S2 after trying Batista and Ginger Mod Roms.

Prefer the more stock look with Cognition to the menus (I use Go Launcher), and the balance of removed apps is about right. Battery life is excellent with ninphetamine 2.1.3. kernel, also use JKay theme and lock screen mods, and Swift X keyboard.

I'm surprised there isn't more mention of Cognition Rom in this thread. Anyone else tried it?

I've had enough of the ROMS for now. What you gain in battery life you lose in functionality and stability. Always something pops up that doesnt work right. Batista70 had errors when buying from the market.
Also battery life situation is a false economy on most roms you get a good/better battery life when you dont use it but when you do I notice they all seem to drain at the same rate or feel like they do at least.

I am on stock and rooted and freezing bloat with titanium back that way I know I got what I pay for and can help battery life myself.
Of all the roms I tried lightning 6.1 was the best for me its down to choice all this anyway.

snip....

I'm currently running that kernal with litening 6.1 and can also report great results with it - 48 hours of light use and still hanging on @ 10% left this is after I sorted out the AOS bug caused by the media scanner hanging and eating up battery life.

Sadly just as I get the phone sorted to how I like it , it has developed a glaring pink tint down the centre of the screen so as it's within 28 days O2 are gonna do a swap out for a new one on Weds. Oh well at least I know what to install on it now so setting it up again won't be to hard :)

Just restore your backup after you root your new device. Zero setup.
