why are magic mushrooms illegal

Don't be ridiculous. Those are allergies and totally different.

You cant die from eating the right ones. You would have to be stupid to pick the wrong ones. You would literally have to do no research and go around eating random mushrooms in a habitat magic mushrooms cant even grow eg. woodland.

I'd bet more people have died from from those allergies than from shrooms, so if it's all risk-based, they should also be banned. But most people who use magic mushrooms don't go mental or hurt themselves, just like most people who eat peanuts and shellfish don't.

If it is banned due to the "risk of injury or psychosis", then what is the reasoning? Political? No, certainly not!

I never mentioned anything about dieing ;) I'm sure you can't either if you do eat the right ones. I mean they are only fungi after all and I see plenty of people having fried buttons in the morning on toast :P

Part of the problem with this isn't just with people dieing from eating the right ones, it's people who want to try it, go out and pick some mushrooms up thinking they are the right ones and eating something deadly. If it was regulated then fine, but people like to go around or ignore them.

Again when was risk based purely done on death. It isn't and never has been.

It includes a whole list of thinges.
Death, longterm problems, shot term effects, addiction, social problems etc etc etc.

It's not amazing when their actions impact on the lives of others. :p

Which happens how often?

I've encountered hundreds of drug users over the years, and only 1 death and 1 sectioning, both due to ridiculously excessive usage. People who eat ridiculously excessively become obese, get diabetes, and other health issues which often lead to death. BAN UNHEALTHY FOOD!!!!111

Indeed. I don't think I ever called for them to be banned or said the people died from it. I simply posted a link to an article ;)
My opinion is that people can do what they want providing it doesn't harm others, even drugs. Alas harm can mean more things than just physical damage or mental self damage. It can tear families and communities apart if it goes wrong

Shrooms aren't addictive. Coffee and cigarettes are.

And?
Again why focus on one thing, it is a combination of all of them. One of the biggest factors being short term mental alteration. It's not good for society as a whole for people to be mentally away with the fairies.

you do realise in england atleast, how hard it would be to accidentaly eat a deadly mushroom.

also why cant everyone just do whatever they want aslong as it dosent harm others ?

Never a huge mushroom fan. They were always gritty and having to eat 100s of the little things was a pain in the arse.

1 little cm square of paper was much easier.

I would happily ban both of those as well if I was in charge and could get away with it.
You could ban alcohol today, shut down all the breweries and distilleries, liquidate the assets of every company involved in producing and trading alcohol. By the end of the month you'd have hundreds of illegal breweries and distilleries operating around the country. You'd have criminal gangs producing a product that could easily be more harmful to the user than alcohol currently is.

The police would struggle to deal with the massive criminal gangs prohibition would create. The hospitals would struggle to deal with alcohol related illnesses in the absence of the taxes that booze brings in.

Prohibition of alcohol would be disastrous.

I'm not saying legalise all drugs. But we could legalise some of the less harmful ones (cannabis, mushrooms, ecstasy). Tax the crap out of them. Enforce far tougher penalties for anyone involved in illegal drugs.

Also I should also note pumping his stomach would do NOTHING to stop the drug. They would need to give him downers like Valium which would nullify the effects of the drug, again if he researched he would have known that ;).

You should tell your friend to make better stories if he wants to enter the "cool kids" club.

Why do you think him getting his stomach pumped was in an effort to stop the drug? It would have been in case he had ingested different dangerous types of mushroom along with the magic ones. It would also be incase the mushrooms were sprayed with anything, fertaliser, pesticides etc which can commonly happen.

Anyway, of the many trips I have had the only bad one I have ever experienced was from shrooms. Was watching the old Clash of the Titans and got very depressed that my life was going nowhere as Perseus was a **** but still had a bird, a cool shield, a flying horse etc whereas I was a decent guy and had none of this cool stuff. Got me quite down.

Is it drugs like 'shrooms that make people go insane or is it that insane people abuse drugs?

Mind = Blown

Need to go sit on my roof to think about it, brb

Slightly off topic - I'm not a smoker, nor am I a user of illegal drugs but I do recall sometime ago a friend of mine who is a habitual marijuana smoker telling me the most dangerous thing in the joint he is smoking is the tobacco and that as we all know is perfectly legal and heavily taxed!

Can anyone else confirm or deny if the above statement is true?

it's true, in our "drug education" things at school it was hilarious they organized drugs into danger (cannabis was at the end of the "safe" side and tobacco right at the top of "most dangerous") but then she says

"however to smoke cannabis you must smoke tobacco so..."*she takes the person in the line holding cannabis and moves it to the number 2 most dangerous drugs slot above crack heroin and alcohol*.

I died a little inside.

The only side effect of smoking large amounts of weed i found is that it turns you into a boring **** that only listens to gangster rap and doesn't move from the sofa for 14h

How hard? Not that hard to be honest. There are plenty of highly toxic mushrooms around and stupid people will eat them if they think they can get high.

If you read my post I said I don't mind if people do stuff that doesn't harm others. Harm can mean many things however, even if subtle

I always had fun on mushrooms. Acid was just exhausting.

Completely different trips though.

Shrooms have a more physical and (I hate to use the term) spiritual effect.

Paper is more edgy and in the mind.

Both serve their purpose depending on what a person is wanting to get out of it.
