BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Resolved my issue with my wireless. PC in the converted garage was getting a rubbish single. Tried a load of new devices to absolutely no effect.

Bought the OcUK Value powerline adapters which are currently on offer for £36 and they work like a dream. Couldn't of asked for better.

Plugged one into a socket by the router and then cable into the gigabit port. Plugged the other into a socket by then PC and then cable into ethernet port... instant access, as fast as if it was straight into the router. I was sceptical before buying them, but I've been so impressed by performance, ease and above all, cost. Still getting mid 30's downstream :)

Egon thats great to know and may well come in handy for myself.

Update:

Well with a bit of luck my saga will come to and end shortly, it's amazing what an email in the right direction can do :D Had a phone call from a very nice lady this morning asking me when I want the install date and confirming that she will be in constant contact throughout the process until I am completely happy.

I'm still seeing a December 31st date for me so fingers crossed.

What's this i see about unlocking?

And is 80mb going to need more new kit in exchanges or it is just them making software changes?

I wonder if they'll ever give the option to run coax to the house instead of the standard phone line.

Got Infinity installed a couple of weeks ago now and been awesome. Cabinet is about 10 metres from my house and the OR installed a new master socket next to the PC that mostly uses the internet. Old socket must have been about 25 years old!

According to Sabnzbd+ I am getting 4.4mb/sec transfer speed. Anyway to check the stats on the modem? Unless im being blind I couldn't see anywhere on the homehub.

Read back a page or two.

Change @ cab. No need for manual hands-on.

Some of us might see FTTH in 10-20 years.

Was he a giant? Thinking about it now the OR installer must have trashed the faceplate I brought elsewhere, when I replaced the original BT one I noticed the terminals had started to corrode, the wires from the dropbox? to the master socket seem incredibly thin and spindly and the overhead line passes through a tree. Although I'm getting the 20x speed I was expected to get according to the leaked pdf, it looks like my profile is set at 26K kbs.

Ohhhh myyyyy gooooodddd!!!! :D

I've noticed a lot of BT vans around town lately working on the PCPs and thought they were just playing about... just checked BT website and...

30th September :D :D :D  :D

PRAISE THE LORD!!!!

I hope for your sake that's correct, but the scheduled date for my phone line started out being 30th March, then July, then Sept and (suprise surprise) it's just moved back to 31st December! *sigh*

Even more annoying is that I've checked the last three places that I've lived and all 3 have FTTC already and also ADSL speed of 5-8Mbps. Where I am now I've no FTTC, no Virgin cable and ADSL2 of about 1.3Mbps

Can someone do a pingtest at Frankfurt on pingtest.net to check how much the latency difference is with my normal BT broadband?

Here you go, hope this helps:

Well it should be... every time I've been up town past couple of days I've seen loads of open reach vans. And my Nan can get it from her exchange and she lives ~10 minute drive away. So it's looking good. :)

Oh **** you BT!!! Gone back to 31st December now!

My Nan lives 4 miles away and she can get it from her exchange! :( How depressing is that!

Got a call out of the blue from BT saying my exchange had gone live (had been originally put down as going live in Dec '10, with the standard 3 month delay as we entered the month in question).

Should be getting 35 down and 9 up (<100m from cab) which will be amazing going from 5Mb/s atm from o2 (who have been great, shame they haven't anounced anything regarding fttc).

Will hopefully go live next Wed, and I can't wait!

Have spent the last few days reading this thread, hope I don't have half the problems some of you have been having. Have very little faith in BT but just couldn't resist the speed at this price.

Well this is weird, I woke up this morning to download some files off a newsgroup, and I was getting 6.6MB/s on the download. Did a speedtest and it was reporting 62mb. 10 minutes later it dropped back to 40mb o.O
