Love Film

I've been with lovefilm for about 4 years now (2 disc unlimited) and cant really fault the service. I've had maybe 4-5 scratched discs in that time and get through about 8 rentals a month.

Its a good chance to watch films I wouldnt otherwise buy/rent through other means. I have some good recommendations if anyone is interested? :)

Unfortunately the last 2 discs they sent out never arrived and I have to wait 4-5 days before I could flag them as lost which means I've been without films for over a week through no fault of my own.

On top of that I have to fill out p91 forms and post them back within 10 days blah blah blah, which is a complete pain.

I also didn't really appreciate the tone of the email either:

Royal Mail will contact you with a P91 form to confirm the loss, which should arrive by 22/11/2011.

Here's what you need to do:

Complete the P91 form within 10 days of receipt, and return to Royal Mail
Contact our Recovery Department if you do not receive the P91 form by 22/11/2011.
Contact our Recovery Department if anything prevents you from completing the P91 form.

Please note that if Royal Mail do NOT receive the complete P91 form, a £10.00 charge may be added to your account so we can replace the missing disc.

I used Lovefilm for about a year getting unlimited rentals 2 disks at a time (films only at the time). The service was really good. I had a high turnover of disks generally watching one disk while the other was being sent.

If ever there was a problem (scratched disk or not recieved) they were very quick to sort it out. The only problem I found is that after a while you do run out of films you actually want to watch and end up with a load of tripe. This is the point that to me the £15 or whatever it was was no longer worth it.

Perhaps it would be different with kids watching the same stuff over and over, the ability to rent games and stream movies... I still don't see the point in going back myself... a decent On Demand package service through sky or virgin is better imho.

We liked Love Film when we had it. We never had a scratched disk or any "lost disk" problems that others seem to have had, but we cancelled it in the end when we got new jobs and weren't getting the value out of it. Sometimes a film would sit there for two weeks until we eventually just sent it back unwatched.

We also found we ended up getting films we didn't really want to watch particularly but thought, "meh, we might as well" - so we decided to save ourselves the £19 a month.

The streaming is 100% not HD. And the sound! Oh my

We started watching The Hurt Locker through the streaming and the quality was so poor we thought for the first 5 mins or so that it was part of the movie, e.g. someone nefarious was watching the troops through a video camera or pair of binoculars or something. In the end we fast forwarded through and found the whole movie was like that - so we switched off.

The streaming service has some right tripe on it most of the time. I hardly ever found anything I wanted to watch. Ended up watching Free Willy...

Yeah, I think you reach a point where you've pretty much seen everything you actually want. Especially if you're on the unlimited package. It's also annoying that they still have a silly beef with Universal.

Got tired of Lovefilm - was on an unlimited package. At first the films would get to me quickly and all was well, but after a few months films would take days or weeks to get to me. To make matters worse, they would rarely send me the most wanted films from my wishlist. I really wish we had Netflix here. Cancelled my sub as it just wasn't worth the money.

The free trials always go well, but things change as soon as your trial ends and you actually subscribe.

I've been with Lovefilm for something like 7 years now (originally under 'Screenselect'!). I've found the service best for foreign films, obscure films or classics that you might not be able to get elsewhere.

Pretty happy for £12 a month.

Although I don't watch the streaming unless I'm extremely bored.... the quality is too poor.

The hope is that Amazon will have the clout to sort that out.

I jut signed up for a month free trial as if I did I got a 15 quid voucher to spend at the rain forest.
Just added loads of music Blurays to my list and will cancel few days before its up

It depends on how imaginative you're being with your film watching - Lovefilm is fantastic for broadening your horizons past what you would normally find in a shop or on TV, and furthermore I find myself "taking a chance" on films that I wouldn't necessarily ever think about buying, but I'll watch them via Lovefilm because there's very little risk (other than my time...).

The IMDB top 250 is always a good start, but practically any film above a 7.5 on IMDB is worth a watch.

Agreed. I've watched loads of things I wouldn't normally have chosen. Sadly, lots have been chick flicks :(

We signed up a few months ago. I've had quite a few scratched discs in that time, which is disappointing, but to be fair to them they have sent out replacements quickly every time.

We'll be having it for a while yet I imagine, there're a good 60 titles on our list at the mo that we're somewhere between "mildly interested, may as well give it a go" to "very interested in"

I'm glad because as mentioned it gives us the opportunity to try things that we wouldn't otherwise have gambled on.

Worth noting too, if you sign up to topcashback.co.uk you can then join up to Lovefilm and receive £16 cashback for signing up to the free trial.

I did this with Lovefilm, Blockbuster and Cinema Paradis over a 2 year period, using parents address, partners parents (both seperate), grandparents and any friends. Made like £150 and had 2 years of movies and games.
Check it out...

As for the service, I do find it is useful and one of the cheapest ways to watch or play multiple titles. I pay the £10 a month 1 at a time unlimited games/movies and use it 99% for games. I just get 1, play it and if I don't like it, send it back. If I do, i'll complete and send it back. Usually get through 4-5 a month depending on how much i like each one.
For a tenner, you can't go wrong.

Then when there is nothing else you want, cancel for a bit. By the time a load of new things are out they offer you 3 months for price of 1 or something.
