Onlive UK launch: Any game for £1!!!

It's a game streaming service - even when you 'buy' a game you can only ever access it by connecting to OnLive and having their servers stream the game live to your device.

The advantage is that because its's their hardware running the game, you can play top titles on just about anything with a keyboard.

The big downside is, of course, bandwidth. If you have a stonking great 100mb connection you'll probably have a perfect experience. For most everyone else the graphics quality gets scaled back as their connection bottlenecks.

I'm going to give this a quick test on work 100/100mbit connection to see how well it holds up in 'perfect' conditions.

Can't say I see it as the future of anything though.

I think it is to be honest, although I'm not sure I like it. People are complaining about sub-standard experiences now because of bandwidth restrictions, but give it a few years that problem will go away. 8 years ago 128k was the best connection I could get. Even with a lowly 8mb connection now it's still 60 times faster than it was back then.

Broadband speeds aren't improving at any great rate in the UK atm (for the majority, not the lucky few of us that have 100mbit connections/etc). And, more importantly, latency is improving at an even slower rate.

Just tried to play free trial of Warhammer on my 20Mbit connection (8Mbit actual speed) and it was just a bit too jittery and video quality wasn't the greatest but it was pretty cool to be able to play it instantly!
Maybe this will help more people get back on to the PC platform since they don't need to have such expensive computers, just a decent internet connection which I'm sure will be in the next couple of years as UK gets the fibre broadband rolled out. Although since I'm a hardcore PC fan I'll stick to upgrading my PC every couple of years :D

Can someone explain what this actually is?

The website is way confusing.

Edit, nvm- seen this

Playing Crysis on a mobile phone would be funni

I have read up on it but when someone says their key worked, I want to find out if its true or not and if there are possibly some games that have given out keys by accident.

If that actually were true then the keys would likely be rescinded in the near future anyhow, potentially disabling your steam account.
