****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

I'm thinking about buying this sim free and selling my Desire HD to partly fund it...is this crazy talk?

depends how much, there are certain deals (even for 12 months!) that make buying it sim free a bit pointless.

I agree, this are also some decent cashback deals available to bring the total cost of the contract below the cost of the SIM free phone. My order yesterday will cost me about £450 over 12 months after Quidco.

I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I've downloaded an app called "Memory Booster Lite" and it shows which apps/services are running and there are like 15 apps that are running which I never use and which are most likely effecting the battery life.

Is there a way to stop these apps/services running in the background?

Also is there a guide about rooting? I'm still not sure what it is and I'm tempted to give it a shot, is it worth trying out?

Thanks

The Google Nav one already on the phone is supposed to be pretty good, and free (it can only cache 10 maps though, so requires a data connection when somewhere not cached, obviously this could be a problem if you go places where you don't have a data connection), I don't use a sat nav though so can't add anything other than that :(.

I think there's a thread recently that talks about Android sat nav apps, should be on the first or second page I think.

I didn't even know there was a Navigation already on there. I will give that some test runs this week to see what I think of it, I do have a data connection so it shouldn't be a problem. Do you know if I can store some favourites in there?

Will have a search for the satnav thread, cheers.

If you only need UK maps give Navfree a try.

It's only about 300 meg and is totaly free, it only covers the UK which is what you want anyway so fits the bill and is supposed to be very good

Couldn't find 'Navfree' for some reason, has it been removed? I'll try the free google one for now and see how I get on, I only need UK maps and voice turn by turn directions and I'm sorted.

Another query. I dragged an avi file to the memory card and it asked me if I wanted to convert it first, which I did. It copied over to the memory card on the phone but when I play it back, the file is very glitchy. Is it best to just drag avi, mpeg, divx etc files over as they are or do you need to convert them to another format?

Just drag the file over don't convert it, if you find the default player can't play it grab moboplayer from the marketplace. I prefer moboplayer myself anyway.

Travelled to Liverpool & back yesterday with the GPS on Google maps, Apart from all the road works up in Liverpool blocking off certain roads it got us to where we needed to go. Battery life was dead by the end of it though expected really. It is the screen that kills the battery really.

It's not on the market, it's easy to find with google though.

As said don't convert it, the stock player will play almost anything.

It's linked in to your Google Maps on your PC. Make sure you're logged in and star something on Google Maps, it'll be starred on your phone. You can create your own maps with your own POI too. These can then be shared with others such as family members. Very useful.

I've noticed screen burn now, When I go from homescreen with beautiful widgets on to the market place I can see the clock burned in on the screen.

Defect or do others have the same?

Got 2.3.5 on mine now, seems pretty slick Samsung have added a few touches like overscreen glow in blue and the ability to skip to the last tab from the first tab and vice versa.

Well i've decided to sell the S2 i got a few weeks back, just love my iP4 too much and and going to wait for the iP4S/5 and see what happens.

The S2 will be going on the bay....

Its a great phone, just not right for me. :)

I thought that at first, but gave it a few weeks and now love it more than anything Apple would be able to offer

Guys who are running KI3 firmware based on 2.3.5, if you want to keep the stock email app but with admin rights removed to stop your company preying on your phone, I have modified the email.apk to remove this option.

Here: http://min.us/lcfdo3IJyvjub

Please try and test it, I've changed the code as shown by gauner1986 on xda, not a CWM flash zip, copy and paste into system/app using root explorer or similar and change permissions to:

And as you can see does not appear in admin, so appears it works :D

Enjoy.
