Convince me to buy a Civic Type R (EP3)!

IIRC the 'BIG' service should be at 50k, not 75.

75k is definitely a major service - gearbox oil, brake fluid, valve clearances and so on. Price for this at the Springfiled Honda branches in Newcastle is approx £500. Mine went in for it pre sale as not having it done can easily put off buyers

The 25k and 50k services are also big ones as the valve clearances get checked on these too.

Hahahahhahahaha, do you actually know the market for these mate? I paid 9 for her with 33k on the clock in may-very very good price.

It ain't no uk civic you know:p

Stop talking *****

tbh I had assumed it was an EP3, my bad:)

I've actually no idea how much 2004 DC5's go for, probably 3 million pounds or something.

This is why you go to a decent specialist and not a dealership :p I had the major service done on my DC5 (the same as the EP3) for under £300 including valve clearances.

Can you guys just check this checklist I made to take with me when viewing EP3's?

Civic Check List

I will forget this kinda stuff if I don't write it down as I'm no mechanic and I don't wanna get taken away with the vtec y0 kicking in and ruining my train of thought haha. If theres anything you think I've missed, shout up, gonna view a couple tomorrow.

Thanks :)

Or you just go to a dealership that doesnt rip you off, I've had a Honda dealership do valve clearences for £50 and for someone who doesnt know how to do them thats not too bad

I'd rather take my DC5 to a specialist (more specifically TGM) than some Honda monkeys that have never even seen a DC5 before :p

I've been view a couple of EP3's today.

They don't set the world alight but they are fun, compliant and vtec is a laugh ringing the neck off your car and feeling confident it can take it :)

One thing, is it normal for the headlights to have some kind of disease?! The plastic lens was all blotchy and faded/ghosted and nasty on both... bit offputting?

That is fairly typical and effects the DC5 too, I believe the Xenons cause some oddities with the plastics. Usually resolvable with some wet'n'dry and some elbow grease though.

If it is quite normal and easily fixed then I will essentially not let it put me off the car.

I am gonna keep searching though, the better one I saw had an iffy paint repair on the back bumper, fronts of the side skirts were coming away from the body, the service book was there but no receipts, back tyres were old bridgestones and all cracked up, fronts were cheapo acceleras. Headlight issues as I say, brakes needed replacing and it needed tax, up for £5490, 76k, major service not done. He wouldn't budge on price and would only throw in 6 months tax if I went for it.

I think I can do a lot better for the cash. But, it did drive really well and felt tight and together and was very clean inside.

it's not something specific to a honda civic. It happens to all old headlights, I'm surprised your golf hasn't done the same.

Nah the Golf lights are perfect condition to be fair, not bad for 12 years old :)

I aren't saying my Golf is mint but it's on 150k miles and in better condition than loads of cars I've looked at, which are 5, 6, 7 thousand quid.. it's frustrating I can't sell mine for even 1800 quid when I am looking at 6k-ish cars which aren't much better externally...

Even though Mr. Fox says milage is nothing and to an extent I agree with mine driving pretty well all things considered, it really does affect the sale of a car for a reasonable price. I suppose I need to get it out of my head I've spent a lot on it over the last couple of years and just get it gone and look forward to something new :)

The Hondas hold their Price too well Stormster. This is something I can't get my head around at the moment,

Just seems like dead money for me.. one of the reasons I can't make my mind up :o

I am aiming to spend 5k absolute max after bartering... but I want as near as mint as I can for that.

It looks like hard work, by the time you've spent ages looking at cars, time and money travelling, you may aswell just spend more on a bit of a minter which is exactly as described (which most aren't).

I hate reading stories how people have dropped on uber bargains, it just never ever ever happens to me and I really wish it would :D

Have you viewed any yet mate?

Not viewed any yet, been far too busy with farm work :( and I can't seem to find anything I like within a decent vicinity :p

Did you want a Facelift? MilanoChris still has his 52 up at 4250

4.5 there but i saw 4.2 on PH

I'm only after facelifts, anything before that just doesn't look right now!

i know you are:p asking Stormster sorry

I would love to have a drive in a Type R, the owners enthusiasm is infectious.
Interesting reading.

Just been working out my MPG using FuelLog on Android.

I emptied the tank and filled to the brim.

With my KPRO, a fair share of VTEC'ing throughout, 30miles of motorway with the rest all City driving.

I got 27MPG and 296miles off a tank. I reckon I could have got more if I had not ragged it a fair few times throughout the fill up ( can't help myself though ).

50 Litres, £65.95 @ £1.319

Can't grumble at that at all :)

I would personally like a facelift, the front end just looks a bit more modern and stylish to me at least... but I will recheck Chris's ad :)
