****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Ok been using the S2 for a day now, few things I have found so far:

1) Tested the default 'Navigation' today since I had to go somewhere 5 miles away, thought it would be a good test run. I was halfway there and it still said 'Searching for GPS' until I gave up and shut it down. Surely you just activate GPS then start the program? I put the postcode of my destination in and the whole time it was on it hadn't moved from my original address where I started. Anyone have any ideas? My iP4 picked up a strong GPS signal wihin 10 seconds of starting up tomtom.

2) I have a 300mb video file which works perfectly on my PC. Dragged it to memory card on S2 and clicked convert, it was all glitchy. Deleted that and tried it again without converting, still glitchy. Installed Moboplayer, tried running it through that, and still glitchy. Must be a bad file but it works fine on my PC so again something doesn't seem right.

3) I thought that because the screen on the S2 is bigger then the iP4, that the books I have downloaded on PDF would be much better to read on the S2. They were crystal clear on the iP4 just the text was a tad too small, but a quick double tap on the iP4 screen and it would zoom in a bit bringing the text perfectly to the edge of the screen with no gaps. The same files on the S2 are not as easy on the eyes despite the screen being bigger. The text looks almost squashed and it isn't as sharp, and I still have to zoom in to read it.

There are obviously loads of plus points too, the 1080p videos look stunning. But so far I haven't found anything which makes me think this is 'better' then the iP4. It has only been a day though and I am convinced I must be doing something badly wrong to have so many issues on so many basic tasks. I am sure my mate who loves his S2 will point me in the right direction when I have a moan at him later. :P

Aha, so it's not just me that thinks the screen isn't as nice for text. Small text is a pain to read on any of the Samsung SAMOLED panels I've found. It just isn't nice.

Even the Sensation is better for this.

OK....

Plus the battery is awful compared to the iP4, no matter what ROM/Kernel combo i used... :(

That said i do/did love that big screen.

It isn't 'awful' in comparison, but it's not as good, no.

I would think anyone who has used both devices would think the same, especially when comparing the same PDF files as I have done. Maybe it's because the actual screen resolution is lower on the S2? If Samsung could squeeze a 4.5"-4.6" screen into a similar sized device and really increase the resolution it might just be perfect.

Anyone using Batista rom? I have a issue when clicking on twlaucher options it comes up in a foreign language? All settings seem right in standard settings

GPS issue kind off resolved. Me and my mate both started up Navigation at the same time and it said 'Searching for GPS on both'. After a good wait his picked up signal first, mine followed soon after. I am not use to waiting that long to pick up a GPS signal and maybe I couldn't pick up a signal earlier because I was driving. Anyway I am downloading CoPilot again then at least I can test like for like software, I used CoPilot several times on the iP4.

Has anyone who has used both devices found the GPS to be much better on the iP4 or S2 or generally the same?

Battery life is excellent on the SGSII - If its not good for you then frankly its the user at fault. And my dad has to charge his IP4 up everyday so obviously its down to the way the phones used.

1) my gps is fine - it takes longer to get a fix the first the its ever used. also make sure a-gps is enabled.
2) whats the file type?
3) got a link to that pdf? Never had a problem with pixelation on this phone.

The very first time I used gps it took a couple of mins (if that) to lock. I use CoPilot almost daily for work and it takes seconds to lock, not had any issues :)

If you keep having problems try "GPSfix" off the market place. After using that mine picks up signal in seconds.

Battery life is great on this phone using CM7 and I can easily get 2 days out of it can't see what the problem is on the battery side.

I agree with the resolution of the I4 screen but on the other side its nice having a big screen to view web pages on instead of a smaller one and lets be honest the browser on the I4 is god awful by today's standards, the constant chequer board is a joke.

I was a big I4 fan and thought it was the best phone I had used but after messing on me bro's when he visited for the weekend and comparing the 2 I wasn't impressed, it feels just what it is a phone from a year ago, roll on the I5 to see what that can offer.

Lol, what?

It's perfectly fast enough. 'God awful', really?

The browser is terrible its as if apple never updated it from the 3G it was one of the big hates for me, feels like a backward step from the GS2 browser, this is my own personal opinion of it oh and no flash :).

I put that remark out knowing it would be you Robbo that answered it :p

Do you mean speed-wise or features?

I've just tested them both side by side and the Galaxy S II is faster on most sites but not by much at all. It's slower on some as well. Flash is totally fair enough, if you need/want flash.

It only chequer boards on very large websites with a lot of images, and even then it appears pretty much right away though so I can't see why it's much of an issue.

You just seem to randomly splurt out daft comments like that when there isn't much need. Also on the topic of the earlier point e36Adz made, zoomed out I can read text quite easily on the iPhone and on the Galaxy S II it's badly distorted. It's just the same on the Omnia 7 screen too. :(

Aha, I see your edit. You were baiting me. Damn you sir. ;)

Yeah maybe 'awful' was a bit strong, thing is i am, what i'd describe as a very a heavy user of my phone, as in always calling, texting, emails etc, so for me battery life is my top priority. :)

lol, users fault, thats such a stupid comment. So its my fault that i am a heavy user, and i need my phone all the time, and i need it to have a good battery life? By your logic its sounds like your dad is using his iP4 wrong then....

Fact is the S2 drops about 5-10% overnight doing nothing, whilst the iP4 drops hardly any. thats just an example but you get the idea. I know you can freeze that and do this to improve the life, but seriously, why should i need to do that? Android is a battery drain, always has been IMO. Muy old Nexus One was the same, friends and family have Desire's, Wildfires, the original SGS etc, and their all the same. Everyone complains about the battery life....

As i said, its a great phone dont get me wrong, I like the screen and the fact it is so light, but its just not right for me. :)
