The cost of Battlefield 3 (to upgrade)

Well, yes. People keep asking if it's worth it. There are plenty of people, like the OP, spending hundreds of pounds on upgrading their PCs for this one game.

My comment was merely a 'yes, it's as good as you're hoping'.

I think he was actually suggesting that your itchy hands were caused by catching something at the event.

I know. I realised after I typed that reply out. My ninja edit was unsuccessful  :D

"Why is he being so confrontational?" *justifies post*... "Ohhhh..." :o

Sorry B@. No offence intended :)

You must be getting a lot of chug with that. I'd be interested to see a graph of your FPS.

Running at ultra on my 6970 at 1920x1200 (no AA) my FPS were around 50-75 and I personally found that a bit chuggy.

tell me how to make a graph of the fps and ill do it as my game was perfectly smooth.

or is it possible to make a camcorder record straight onto a hdd?

Anyone running the game on 2560x1440 that can tell me how well it runs in higher resolutions? Luckily i've got a GTX580 albeit 1.5gb model though so hopefully it'll be enough.

To be honest it looks like they've done a really good job with the engine to make it look as good as possible without needing expensive systems so i should think i'll be fine :D

Could it be that Phenom six-cores are now being fully utilised in this game much more than the quads cores? That could explain why arknor is getting a good performance with Ultra settings.

Sli 580s run 1080P flawlessly (150fps or so) with everything sel to ultra.

Set the res to 2560x1600 and the VRAM exceeds the 1.5gb of the cards. This means 20fps :(

even one card shows 20fps so its a VRAM issue. 3GB 580s will be required, any "dual card" with 3GB of ram will also fail due to the card only using 1.5GB per GPU (this means 590 owners wont be able to rock it out at that res).

My 580s are clocked at 1003/2006/4600 so are far from slow!

bugger, i may have to flog my 580 1.5gb for a 580 3gb if i have issues then, will get the chance to test it when im home from work later though.

That said, AA isn't much of a requirement playing at that res so if i turn that off it may be ok

Cost me for will be zero..!! It'll have to be PS3 for me, as I can't afford to upgrade my PC but I still reckon a Q6600 clocked to 3.6 with an ATI 5870 should run this at 1080, so I 'might' be ok lol

Dont' think my trusty Dell Studio laptop could manage 1280 x 720 with its ATI 5650, as I do sometimes enjoy a bit of 720p gaming on my HD TV...!! With the AA cranked up and high textures etc, my laptop at 720p can do a decent job..

Sadly, looks like this'll be PS3 so won't cost me nothing but the cost of the game..!!

After playing the Beta on PS3 I'm taking the plunge and upgrading my laptop to an Alienware M17X R3 to play this after 16 months of console gaming only, its going to cost me in region of £550.
I noticed a big differance in BF:BC2 from P.C to console and I'm not prepared to play a nobbled PS3 version after waiting 3 years ish for this.
I am quite happy playing CoD on console as its designed for them really these days but it won't be a real Battlefield game on console.

Seriously get it for pc, so what if you got to play it low/med it will still look like the ps3 version graphics whise and plus you got 64 man servers and all the other pluses of playing it on a pc:)

Hmmm funny really as I've just got F1 2011 on both PS3 and PC. I'm a big PS3 fan, I enjoy the ease of console gaming however F1 2011 on the PS3 is an epic graphic failure in some ways.. Its a good console game, don't get me wrong, but when a Dell Studio 1749 laptop with an ATI 5650 1gb GPU runs the game at 1280 x 720 with ultra settings with 8 x MSAA, heck it can do 1600 x 900 if I knock the AA down it made the PS3 version look very poor indeed..

I'm in two minds, I'm still sold on the PS3 I really am but truthfully I'm happy to play at lower res or res matching PS3 with increased AA at times...

I do like playing PC games on my 42" plasma with a 360 pad at either 720 or 1080 with insane levels of AA if running at 720. Sitting 5 feet away means it does look fairly good. I know the uber highres PC gamers will scoff, but to me its fantastic.. Batman AA on my Laptop running on my TV at 1600 x 900 looked awesome..

Ooh now what do I do?? lol

Could you not use FRAPS?

to make an fps graph? the benchmark makes massive text file of numbers that would spam the forum.

and if your recording wirth fraps the hdd chugs along like mad and will make it look like the game is the cause of the stuttering.

i could record a clip with my wifes camcorder but all her memory cards are full of her crap so i cant delete them and i dont think its possible to record directly to a hdd with the usb cable?

You don't need to "prove" that you got good performance. I'm just wondering roughly what kind of FPS you were getting. If you wouldn't mind running FRAPS (not recording, just FPS display) and giving us a rough idea that would be great.

Not a big deal if you cba though.
