Battlefield 3 thread - Server details in opening post -

Finally downloaded the game and installed it, it opened a web based server browser, I thought fine I'll put up with this. Click a game, click join... "you need our plugin to join, download it and then click continue".

I'm out. Too much bloatware. Origin, firefox plugin, web based server browser. And 3 EULAs that had to be signed along the way, some of which had multiple pages each requiring an agreement.

I was a great bfbc2 player, I loved BF2, and I even enjoyed bf2142 but EA have just taken things down a bad direction and I've had enough.

Good luck to anyone else who plans on playing.

Well that sucks. I preloaded the open beta 2 days ago via torrent, tried to replace the files in origin games, and it just deletes them and forces a fresh download.

Why can't things just be simple ey?

I downloaded the zipped client last night, unpacked it then 'cut and pasted' the Battlefield 3 Beta folder and placed it directly into Program Files(x86) > Origin Games

then started Origin and it worked straight off ...

People 'writing off' Battlefield 3 because of the BETA having technical difficulties.


And people wonder why developers don't have PROPER beta tests anymore.

Well out of curiosity I've downloaded the PS3 beta, and O M G does it look like a mess, its so different visually from even low settings that its like playing a different game! The textures are a muddy blurred mess, the lighting looks static and unrealistic and has a green/blue haze to it, there are a TON of details missing from everything and the trees look like cardboard cut outs!

If you've got even a half descent PC then count yourself lucky, the PS3 port is so shockingly bad. I thought current PC games where a step ahead but not a million miles!

Anyone who refuses to download it because of Origin needs a slap IMO. Yes Steam is a good download service that has got better over time. Yet why should we have to use Steam to play Half Life? Why should other developers give a cut of their profit for having it on Steam. Steam does have the danger of gaining a monopoly on the download market, that would be to the detriment to us gamers.

I am all for competition in this Market. The benefits to us are substantial. I don't mind if every game developer comes to Market with their own download service.

In the Alpha, all you did was get in the tank, rush to the top left corner of the defenders spawn, and your team can get past the first part, expect cries of spawn camping though.

As an ArmA2 player i despise the choppers in BF, though i havnt tried the jets. Cant wait to try CB but have not had the chance yet. Enjoying playing metro a fair bit. But if a team works together (rare) they will wipe the opposition. Im really looking for a TS3 clan with no obligations i can drop in a play with. Anyone know some?

That said the game doesnt really feel a cut above BC2 or MOH though it definatly is an improvement. I juyst wish they picked a new MCOM sound, i mean really? cmon i hate that noise!

I really didnt like piloting a chopper when I tried it, that said, it was on a keyboard. I've been told using the 360 pad for flying is a much better alternative.

Oh and we've got a no ties Teamspeak at thewasd. Things were hotting up on there earlier. Look forward to seeing more people playing BF3 now that it is open.
