Steve Jobs has died. What effect, if any, will it have on Apple and the tech industry?

I am away at the moment and writing this on my mobile device.

going to watch "the pirates of silicon valley" when I get home.

That's ******* disgusting. Just because YOU don't like apple products you want the company to collapse? You should be ashamed of yourself.

I hope your industry ******* collapses and you can't afford to feed your children.

Disgraceful.

lolbutthurt

1. I don't have children

2. I work in IT so if it does go down a hell of a lot of us is going to be unhappy

3. I'm just stating an opinion

4. I've not said anything nasty I'm just saying if they **** up Jobs won't be there to pull them back from the brink as he previously did mid-90's

5. I've never liked the company or it's products and I wanted them to fail first time around I'm sorry if you don't agree with this but should I change my opinion just because one of the three Founders has died recently?

Because apple influences competitors. I would highly doubt android would even exist, if apple didn't create the smartphone frenzy for example.

Now now, let's not start just making stuff up. Google bought Android Inc in 2005 long before the iPhone even came along. And Android Inc started in 2003 with some pretty well known people in the mobile arena.

I know it's not the "tech industry" but sales of black turtle neck sweaters just plummeted for some reason.

Hopefully Apple will keep churning out great products with Tim C at the helm.

I think it'll make a small impact but the company is setup for the time being. Stocks will suffer a little over the next couple of days but will be back up in no time.

You wanted them to fail? What a nice chap you are.

I sincerely hope you are successful in whatever you chose to do, even if it's not something I care about.

I still maintain you're a ****.

Hopefully they won't.

Yeah it'll only really lead to a reduction in quality.

I'm happy paying the current prices for high quality goods.

(not interested, ALL of my apple tech has lasted years).

No it won't.

It would potentially lead to smaller profits for Apple and its shareholders, who MAY then offset that by producing inferior goods.

The cost of production for Apple products is not very high due to their well documented business practices and profit margins are huge because of it.

I envisgage a few more normal looking phone devices, and upgrades to existing units before Apple deminish back to the small time company they once were.

I don't think much will change short term. The shareprice adjusted when he stepped down a couple of months ago, and the company is still being run by largely the same team with the same designers and techies.

But long term Apple will change into what most companies become over time; it will mature into a company run by committee which is less likely to take risks and will stay on the well trodden path. Over many years it will evolve into another Microsoft or another Sony or Samsung.
