Steve Jobs has died. What effect, if any, will it have on Apple and the tech industry?

A great post and I agree mostly.

I have put forwards by opinions in this thread and some people seem to take this as hatting Apple, which is not true.

And just like lady gagga, made pop music that appears to the casual masses that were easy to sing along and dance too.

think about it. Lady gagga and apple share a lot of similarities. re read my first post in this thread about them. i basically said the same thing that you quoted in one sentance i.e both apple and lady gagga are great at executing and marketing. simple

You reading the truth mate. if not are u one of those who thought apple invented the backgroudn notifications bar on the new iOS lol:D

Or the first to develope a tablet device. Or the first to develope a MP3 player, touch screen smartphone? etc etc

ok this is the truth is it?

i see apple as the lady gagga of tech i.e. does next to no innovative stuff for the industry

majority of their products offer nothing new as pointe dout by most people in this very same thread.
the general concense is basically what i said mate, Apple are great at marketing and execution. Their products are "easy" to use so to speak just like lady gagga's music is more easier on the ear and more attractive to the average joe.

Dont forget, the average joe likes simple flashy things. This can be aplied to not only tech and music but even movies. Transformers 3 was like the biggets box office hit this year i think. a masterpiece of a movie? LOL nope but thats the typical suff the average joe wants.

Back on topic.

What will happen to the tech industry? Well I think this will stunt apples growth dramatically. The reaction I got from people about apples launch the other day wasn't anywhere near as hyped as their previous launches.

Jobs had charisma, and could use it to market his products brilliantly, I don't think apple can replace this, and will, long term, have to make changes to marketing strategy.

I think it opens the way for microsoft to step in and establish itself in the mobile computing market (smartphones and tablets)

TBH the main thing he did for all the tech that he brought out was he took a complex device that the majority of the fools out there were like "Oh noes this is too complicated for me to use!" and made it simple enough that said fools could use it shoved it in a fancy case and marketed it like it was the best thing since sliced bread(I reckon this was his greatest skill) tbh it worked like a charm.

edit: damn! beaten to the punch!

So you're calling people that aren't tech-savvy, fools? That's a bit daft don't you think.

It doesn't just appeal to people that aren't into technology, there are a huge amount of people that love technology and have Apple products.

That is just a shockingly bad comparison and I can't believe you are even sticking to it. You shouldn't start 'stating the truth' about things when you quite clearly don't have a clue.

I don't know if you really know what you're blabbing on about. When Apple release their products they change the tech industry for the better as competitors have to constantly up their game, copy ideas etc to compete. How many other companies can you say that about.

I can imagine the Apple store will be full of hipster fanboys doing a sing song and dance on the instore webcams for YouTube whilst shedding a few tears.

In other news my CD drive has just busted, wonder how much Apple will charge for a replacement! With any luck this will force them to integrate with other technologies and companies forcing prices down. Doubtful, though.

I wouldn't really say so the majority of what I've heard on the Windows smartphones is that the operating system is too annoying for the masses to really pay it much mind whereas Andriod is closer to the feel and layout of the Apple OS so I reckon the Andriod may beat MS to the Market lead.

I work in IT and have to deal with these people on a daily basis there's only so many times you can ask someone who's computer won't turn on if they've checked the mains and get the reply no before hearing Oh thats why it wasn't working and not count them as a fool don't you think?

You've obviously never used Windows Phone 7 then. It's far more like iOS than Android is. The old Windows Mobile wasn't so good.

Those people are just idiots, I doubt they even have a remote interest in even having a smartphone, never mind spending £500~ on one.

Android already has market lead, and my understanding from reading reviews is that the metro UI works very well on a smartphone and people generally like it.

I have when they 1st came out when I was asked to look for new phones for the office I hated it Icons were whay too large and unecessary & found the touch screen wasn't as responsive as my brothers android.

Oh you'd be surprised according to some of these users we should be using mac products for everything as they're easier to use

Well, that certainly isn't the case, maybe the phone you tried was faulty, the ones I've tried are extremely responsive. Some people don't like the UI though, which is fair enough.

Well, if that's what they're used to then obviously they will think it's easier to use!

Agree with this!

Still. I think Jobs done a decent Job. But also cant help but think if the public wasnt so gadget crazy we could have done some serious world development by now. A phone can only do so much. Hospitals and Schools would be better IMO.

It seems that people seem to forget that Steve Jobs wasn't a techy (for a CEO of a Computer company). Unlike his rivals like Bill Gates or his old Partner Steve Wozniak, who may be label as the definition of geeks. Steve Job wasn't even a product designer by education, he dropped out of University after a semester to go "soul searching" to see a Guru (who died before they got there) in India and came back a Buddhist!

What he was at heart (in my opinion) is what made him successful, he was your average consumer. He made things that works in a way where non technical minded people wanted to but can't express across. Unlike Bill Gates or the approach of other technology company where their definition of a cool technology is doing something clever but in the end too clever...i.e. windows short cuts? Apple's definition of cool seems to be make existing easier and sexier.

Steve Jobs' design approach stems from an average consumer's point of view, with little or no technical know how. i.e. I bought this printer, why doesn't it work in my computer? With windows, the logical approach is install the driver CD and software. But what you really want is just plug it in. Apple take away that little step which most of us in here never think twice about, but to people like my parents (who can barely set the timer on the VCR), the average person who can just work a toaster, it is vital to Apple's success.

Just look at the instruction manuals that comes an Apple product, or the lack of it.

Fairplay needless to say I've not tried one since a couple of my mates had them and as stated by you were some of those who hated the os one of them actually switched to an iPhone of all things :p and the rest now have androids.

Well, if that's what they're used to then obviously they will think it's easier to use!

I asked them if thats what they used at home and they said no so I asked how do you know they're easier than PC's I got no answer.
